Ben Braymer was unable to throw the shutout necessary for the one run the Red Wings were able to push across for a 2-1 loss that completed the six-game sweep by the WooSox. Braymer, the Triple-A East Pitcher of the month for August, threw five innings of two-run ball on six hits and three walks. He struck out six while taking his eighth loss. Jhon Romero and Dakota Bacus both threw two scoreless innings in relief. Victor Robles broke up the shutout bid with leadoff HR in the 1st and singled in the 8th while Nick Banks hit his fourth double. The rest of the lineup went 0-for-22 with two walks. Roster moves: LHP Josh Rogers optioned from Washington.

Tim Cate pitched into the 6th for the first time since May 25th and was rewarded with a no-decision as Harrisburg fell to Erie by one run, 3-2, to lose the series, 4-2. Cate allowed one run on a home run and six hits total over six innings while walking one and fanning four. It was his third quality start of 2021. Ryan Tapani got the blown save with the “help” of a Gilbert Lara throwing error in the 7th. The legacy pick was charged with the loss when he left after giving up a leadoff double in 8th and Carson Teel walked the bases loaded and gave up the winning run on a sacrifice fly. Harrisburg hit five doubles, but only one scored as the Sens were just 1-for-5 with RISP and left on six.

The Cyclones broke open a 2-0 game with three in the 7th en route to a 6-1 win over the Blue Rocks to take the series, 3-2. Seth Shuman lost for the fourth time in six starts despite a serviceable line of two runs on six hits (one HR) and one walk over five innings. He struck out three. Junior Martina and Israel Pineda both went 2-for-3 to account for four of the six Wilmington hits.

Fredericksburg rallied for three in the 9th to take a 5-4 lead but gave up one to tie in the 9th, and another in the 10th to lose, 6-5, and complete the six-game sweep. It was the seventh straight loss for the F-Nats. Michael Cuevas pitched six full innings for the third time and came away with a no-decision. He allowed four runs on nine hits (two HR) and did not walk a batter. Cole Quintanilla got the blown-save-loss for the second time in the series, giving up two runs on two hits without a walk or a strikeout. Fredericksburg took advantage of three Salem errors to squeeze five runs out of six hits and five walks, going 4-for-16 with RISP and leaving on 12.

FCL Nationals (22-25, 5th Place, 3½ GB)
The FCL Nats took five of six last week to halve the distance between fifth place, where they still remain, and first place. It’s another six-game week this week, with three home games today and tomorrow (doubleheader), an off day on Wednesday, and three on the road against the FCL Marlins, Mets, and Cardinals on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

DSL Nationals (19-18, 5th Place, DSL South 5½ GB
A three-game losing streak has dropped the D-Nats into 5th place, though they’re a game closer to first than they were a week ago. This week, it’s two against the second-place D-Phillies Red, two against the fourth-place D-Yankees1, and two against the D-Astros.
