Buffalo 4 Rochester 3
• Rogers (L, 5-6) 4⅓ IP, 6H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 3K, 2HR, WP
• Goody 1⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Noll 2-4, R
• Snyder 1-1, R, BB, HBP
• 1-6 RISP; 8 LOB
The Red Wings pretty much followed the 2021 script: Starter gets knocked out early, bullpen pitches well, the offense goes AWOL. It was 4-3, Buffalo in the latest episode, with Josh Rogers getting knocked from the box with one out in the 5th, allowing all four Bisons runs on six hits (two HR) and two walks. Rogers struck out three while taking his sixth loss. Nick Goody, Nick Wells, and Aaron Barrett combined for three and 2/3rds scoreless relief, with three hits, one walk, and five whiffs. Rochester scored all three of its runs in the 4th with a single (Jake Noll, 2-4), two walks sandwiched around a hit batsman, another single (Rafael Bautista, 1-4, RBI), and a sacrifice fly. The other two hits came in the 8th but neither runner made it past second base.
New Hampshire 3 Harrisburg 2
• Tetreault (L, 2-1) 6IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 5K, HR
• Schaller 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Casey 1-4, 2B
• Dailey 0-1, R, 2BB
New Hampshire struck early with two in the 1st, added a third run on a home run in the 4th, and held on for a 3-2 win over Harrisburg – the Sens’ 19th one-run loss of the season. Jackson Tetreault took his first AA loss despite posting a quality start of three runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out six. Reid Schaller put up two goose eggs while Bryan Dobzanski put up one, but the offense was limited to five hits and three walks. Donovan Casey had the only extra-base hit while Cole Dailey drew two of three walks on the afternoon.
Wilmington 5 Brooklyn 4
• Gausch 3IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, K
• Hernández (W, 3-3) 3IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 5K, HR
• Rhinesmith 1-3, R, 2B, BB, 2RBI
• Mendoza 1-3, BB, 2RBI
• Meregildo 1-3, R, BB, RBI
The Blue Rocks got two in the 1st and three in the 2nd and held off a late charge by the Cyclones for a 5-4 win. Richard Gaush made his second start and threw three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks and striking out one. Former starter Alfonso Hernández came on in the 4th and wobbled through three innings, giving up a two-run HR and four hits total. He walked two and struck out five while winning his third A+ contest. The 4-5-6 trio of Jacob Rhinesmith, Drew Mendoza, and Omar Meregildo combined for three hits, three walks, and five RBI.
Fredericksburg 5 Salem 1
• Cuevas (W, 1-4) 7IP, 3H, 0R, 2BB, 5K, HBP
• Yankosky 1IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 0K
• Vega 2-4, 2-2B, R, PB(13)
• Martina 2-4, R, E(14)
• Fernández 2-4, RBI
Michael Cuevas went a career-best seven innings—all of them scoreless, too!—while the offense clicked as Fredericksburg hung a 5-1 loss on Salem. The 20-y.o. Texan bewitched the Red Sox, allowing just three hits, two walks, and a Victor Robles to notch his third quality start and first win of the season. Onix Vega doubled twice while Junior Martina and Braian Fernández both singled twice to lead the F-Nats offense, which collected eight hits and five walks and went 4-for-10 with RISP.
FCL Mets 12 FCL Nationals 0
• Dyson (L, 0-1) 2IP, 1H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 1K, HBP
• K. Rodriguez 1IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Acosta 1-3
• Keller 1-3
• 0-3 RISP; 5 LOB
An eight-run 4th put any hopes of a comeback to rest as the FCL Mets shut out the FCL Nats, 12-0 on five hits. Tyler Dyson rehabbed at the onset, giving up two runs on a hit and two walks while fanning one. Would-be starter Johan Otanez was manhandled for six runs over an inning-plus and Pedro González did what Pedro González does: give up runs – four over two innings on three hits (one HR) and one walk. It didn’t much matter as the FCL Nats managed just five singles and one (1) walk while striking out 11 times. Roster moves: C Cole Hamilton (23rd Rd. Pick, 2019) retired.
DSL Nationals – PPD
Rain washed away the entire DSL on Thursday. They’ll try to make this one this morning with a doubleheader.
So… are we ever going to see the 2021 draft class? There’s a bit more than 5 weeks left in the season. They’d need to show up soon to get any meaningful runs of games.
4 of the FCL Mets who featured against the FCL Nats were 2021 draftees. I looked at 3 other FCL games and in each of them, there was at least 2 2021 draftees present on each FCL team.
It seems like we’re the only team to have not assigned ANY of our draftees yet, meanwhile are one of a couple teams most likely to benefit the most from these players entering the system as soon as possible.
I really don’t understand what’s going on. A bunch of these guys signed an entire month ago. Why the wait?
Thank you for bringing this up as well. It is odd.

Cuevas has been interesting lately. Any scouting report?
How much time is left in the FCL season? Is it possible they are just going to wait on playing the 21 draft picks.
I always root for the Nats to win, but the top of the 22 draft is absolutely loaded with both college position players that should be quick to the big leagues and at least three super high ceiling high school players.
Thanks as always for all o the hard work.
Luke there is the old jazz standard with the lyric : “ bewitched .. bewildered
The second and third verbs were historical references to 1692 Salem (technically Danvers)
Well Luke music is always on our minds ..especially jazz to help cope with the insanity of life as we know it
Especially in Nats PD world
Donovan makes one think about the 60s hippie singer with the song Season of the Witch where there is a line which baseball hitters can relate : “ you’ve got to pick up every stich” . Sounds like what Ted Williams might have said …
Must see Friday

This from MLB.com:
“Nationals: Andry Lara, RHP (No. 7)
With the infusion of prospect talent that came over at the Trade Deadline, it could have been easy for the Minor Leaguers already in the system to get lost in the shuffle. That hasn’t been the case for Lara, who, if anything, has solidified his spot as one of the pipeline’s best pitching prospects. The 18-year-old right-hander is touching the upper-90s now and throwing more strikes than he did at last year’s instructs. Despite a rough 5.76 ERA, his 40 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings speak much more to his 2021 abilities in the Florida Complex League.”
He is only 18 and still growing and getting stronger.
Nick Banks sees himself in a similar outfield shuffle in ROCH where he moves around the 3 spots with Swihart and Palka versus Wiseman and Canning .
Should be interesting how the draftees from 21 are indoctrinated in autumn post season org activity in WPB
End of season player evaluations would be an interesting reading of a fly on the shoulder of talent evaluators

Minor league free agent signings and Rule 5 to further thicken the farm base ?
Me!
Watch out Victor Robles. Not only can Donovan Casey hit, but yesterday he made two superb diving catches.
And Casey can hit in the middle of the lineup leaving lead off to a future infielder we don’t know his name yet .. possibly ..
Some draftees might have had longNCAA seasons
