Reyes was charged with “only” four runs over five innings but lost for the second time in as many starts at AAA. He struck out seven. Jake Noll ended the shutout with a solo HR in the 7th while Ali Castillo and Derek Dietrich both singled to account for the Red Wings’ three-hit barrage. Seth Romero reverted to the mean and labored through four innings on 90 pitches, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six. Carlos Navas tried to let New Hampshire back in giving up one in the 5th and two in the 6th, but Harrisburg answered with two in the 5th and four in the 7th. Osvaldo Duarte was the beer man in a 15-hit barrage, which saw six batters collect multiple hits. Jake Alu (#4), K.J. The win went to Carlos Romero as the first man out of the ‘pen with two scoreless innings, a feat matched by Tomás Alastre, which earned him the save. FCL Nationals (12-18, 5th Place FCL East, 6GB)
Rain continues to dog the FCL Nats as they were rained out for the fifth and sixth times to close out the week. It’s another stretch of five games in four days (weather permitting) starting tomorrow – all on the road (or as the road team) with a doubleheader on Thursday.
DSL Nationals (13-11, 3nd place DSL South, 4½ GB)
Despite a 3-2 week last week, the D-Nats fell back another ½ game in the DSL South. This week it’s intra-divisional games against the 6th-place DSL Yankees1 today and tomorrow, an off day on Wednesday, and a pair against the first-place D-Rockies before closing out the week against the Northwest Division’s last-place D-Astros.
The pink slips slowly being left in dressing room stalls
Surprising Edwin Action Jackson isn’t in a Nats unie to eat some meaningless late season IP
The inevitable culling continues.
Tanner Driskell was a 9th round pick in 2018. He was 25 and still in Low A so no big surprise here.
Zach Cornell was a NDFA so his odds were long.
The only head scratcher from the last week was Jordan Bocko.
Wish them all good luck!
Could this be a signal that some draft picks will be showing up in Fredericksburg?
I sure HOPE it’s a signal that draft picks will start showing up ANYWHERE. Their nonexistence has gotten ridiculous.
9th round is still relatively high for another failed pick.
I love Mike Rizzo, but aside from DiPuglia and his international finds, man, he really has start to clean house with his scouting director and some player development people.
It seems everything draft pick we make either busts or gets a serious arm injury. And there are almost no lower round finds (ok, maybe Gabe K.). Say what you want about the Dodgers and their spending, but they have great drafts and excel in the later rounds as well.
We all knew this was gonna come back to haunt them and look no further than what has happened this year.
It seems ***every***draft pick…
Here are all of the current LAD players since 2011 that have played at least one game in the majors AND were drafted after the 5th Round:
2015: Edwin Rios (1B, 6th round): 1.1 WAR
2015: Matt Beatty (C, 12th round): -0.2 WAR
2016: Luke Raley (CF, 7th round): 0 WAR
2016: Tony Gonsolin (P, 9th round): 3.1 WAR
2016: Zach McKinstry (SS, 33rd round): 0 WAR
2017: Zach Reks (OF, 10th round): 0 WAR
2017: Andre Jackson (P, 12th round): 0.2 WAR
That’s 7 players in 10 years drafted after the 5th round that are currently with the Dodgers, with a total WAR of 4.2.
The rest of their draft picks beyond round 5 are either still in their minors system or have been either traded or released.
Literally no games for the organization today.
Random question, but does anyone know anything more about Anthony Gutierez? Baseball America reported that the Nats were connected to him. He is a Venezuelan outfielder that reclassified to be signed in 22-23. I wonder if that was because the Nats allotted most of their money to Cristian Vaquero for this coming period. It could also be because he is young for this class (Vaquero will be one of the oldest, born 9/7/04).
If anyone has any scouting reports or other info, I would appreciate it. There is a brief vid on youtube and he looks great for his age in that, but it is not much.
I am also having flashbacks seeing Cam Collier reclassify for this coming draft. Going to juco as a 17-year old like Harper. Big time power already combined with a good eye at the plate. Lots of talented players at the top of the draft though. Nats should get a great one.
