Three Red Wings pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout of the IronPigs, 3-0. Tyler Eppler allowed just a broken-bat single over the first seven innings, walking two, and fanning five for his first win of the season. Dakota Bacus worked around a walk in the 8th for his second hold while Justin Miller turned in his ninth straight scoreless outing for the save, his fourth. Rochester scored all three runs in the 4th, highlighted by a two-out, two-run single by Tres Barrera.
Harrisburg vs. Richmond – PPD
Harrisburg and Richmond were rained out. They’ll shoot to make ’em up with a doubleheader tonight.
Jersey Shore 1 Wilmington 0 – SUSP
The Blue Rocks and Blue Claws were only able to play for an inning and a half before rain stopped play, then thunder and lightning (sources tell us it’s frightening, oohoo) ended it. They’ll try again this afternoon with another doubleheader.

If I told you 10 runs were scored in one half-inning last night in Salem, you’d probably ask about which Fredericksburg position player got mop-up duty. But neither was the case as the F-Nats took advantage of five walks, two errors, and two wild pitches to score ten runs on just six hits in the 3rd en route to an 11-1 laugher. The long break didn’t affect Alfonso Hernández, who won for the second time in as many starts with five scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and three walks while striking out seven and hitting a batter. Michael Cuevas lost the shutout with a homer given up to cheese curl Jaxx Groshans in his third inning pitched. José Sánchez led Fredericksburg’s 12-hit parade with two singles and a double, followed by Jeremy De La Rosa and J.T. Arruda, who both singled twice.

Do you have any insight on pitchers that are exceeding expectations?
AAA: Baldonado, Miller
AA: Klobosits, Bartow, A. Lee, McMahan, Teel
High-A: Cavalli, Bryzkcy, Cronin, E. Lee
Low-A: Parker, Seijas, Hernández, Willingham
The Red Wings aren’t prospects really, with just a few exceptions. The Senators’ offense is tragic, but their pitching staff is chock-full of guys who have never really been heralded but are shoving this season. Cavalli has shot up to #33 on Baseball America’s prospect rankings, with no other Nats minor leaguer in the top 100; he has clearly separated himself in the early going here.
Thanks, Sao. The only thing I’d add to this is that it’s difficult to say anyone is truly *exceeding* expectations. As the dead-last system, there’s a shit-ton of hope pinned on everyone (anyone) to be something more than a roster-filler. All but the AAA guys are watchlist players, so at a very base level there was some sort of expectation placed upon them by us (me).
Sao, good list but you forgot Michael Cuevas in Fredericksburg. His ERA is a miniscule 0.96. Pretty exciting for a 19 year old!
