Rochester Red Wings (1-5, T5th, Northeast Div. AAA East)
The Red Wings head to Buffalo after taking just one of six against Lehigh Valley. Sean Nolin leads the team in IP (6⅓) and K’s (6) while Jake Noll leads the batter with a .953 OPS.
Harrisburg Senators (1-5, 6th, Southwest Div. AA Northeast)
Harrisburg also makes its home debut and also avoided a sweep with a 1-5 mark against Somerset, a newcomer to affiliated ball after the 2020 MLB takeover. Andrew Lee has been the team’s best pitcher thus far, with a 0.00 ERA, no hits, and five walks allowed over 5⅓ IP. Cole Freeman’s .732 OPS leads the team, which helps explain the 1-5 mark thus far.
Wilmington Blue Rocks (1-5, 5th, North Division, High-A East)
The Blue Rocks remain home to host the Jersey Shore BlueClaws (nee Lakewood). Wilmington won just one of six against Aberdeen in the opening series. Cade Cavalli’s five shutout innings in an eventual loss has been the highlight thus far for the pitchers (and the organization). Likewise, for Justin Connell with his .400/.409/.450 line for the batters.
Fredericksburg Nationals (0-6, 4th, North Division, Low-A East)
Fredericksburg limps home from Lynchburg to open up its brand-new (Your Ad Here) stadium against the Delmarva Shorebirds. The F-Nats were swept by the Hillcats by a combined score of 65-15. Alfonso Hernández has been the least ineffective pitcher with three runs let in on nine hits and three hits over seven innings for a 3.86 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP. Jake Randa is the closest to lg. avg. OPS (.717) with a .695 mark, followed closely by Zach Cornell at .686.
Can someone keep a count of how many times Art Silber uses the word “I” tonight in praising himself for the new stadium.
Perhaps… 42?
Hope we’ll see Carter Kieboom back on the diamond tonight.
And, no.
Justin Connell just might be the first bump up promotion a level in slow turtle start by affiliates
Cronin would be my bet. Sure doesn’t look like he has anything to prove at High-A.
Justin Connell would be the better story because he’s a position player. This is his 5th year in the system but he just turned 22. Hope he can keep it up.
Matt Cronin had zero resistance last time he was at High A in ’19. I had him pegged to start this year at Harrisburg and he’s wasting time in Wilmington.
