Carter Kieboom Born: 9/3/97 Ht. 6’2″ Wt. 190 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
All eyes are on Carter Kieboom to be a regular in the 2020 Nats lineup. The questions are where and when. Offensively, there’s not much doubt. The consensus is he’ll be a plus hitter with patience, recognizes secondary pitches, and uses the whole field with average (or better) power. Defensively, he’s best suited to 2B but has limited experience, and even less at 3B, where he’s been Desmond-esque.
Luis Garcia Born: 5/16/00 Ht. 6′ Wt. 190 Bats: L Throws: R Career Stats |
A year from now, the same questions may be asked of Luis Garcia, who struggled for most of last season at AA until he posted OPS’s of .758 in August and .726 in the AFL. He may a have swing like Juan Soto, but lacks the 2018 ROY candidate’s strike-zone judgment (25BB in 149G) and power (4HR). Consequently, there’s a chance he could repeat AA to hone those skills. Scouts say he profiles best as a contact hitter with opposite-field doubles power.
Jackson Cluff Born: 12/3/96 Ht. 6′ Wt. 185 Bats: L Throws: R Career Stats |
Cluff returned to action for BYU after his Mormon mission in 2019 and posted a .327/.458/.518 line while playing 2B, 3B, and SS. He made his professional debut at Hagerstown, which is very rare for Nats draft picks, and played all but two games at SS where he made seven errors in 59 games. His profile is that of a classic shortstop: not much power, but athletic, and an above-average runner. |
