Aldrem Corredor Born: 10/27/95 Ht. 6’0″ Wt. 202 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Thanks in large part to Cole Freeman aboard in front of him so frequently, Corredor led the Carolina League in RBI with 89 in 127G. But 34 doubles (also led the C.L.) didn’t hurt, either. Alas, the HR total didn’t budge from 2018 (9) and despite all those doubles, his SLG% took a dip as well. Absent a power surge in 2020, this may very well be his last appearance on the watchlist.
KJ Harrison Born: 8/11/96 Ht. 6′ Wt. 208 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
Picked up in the Gio Gonzalez trade, Harrison began 2019 in Hagerstown and lit up Sally League pitchers for a .404/.485/.649 line in 16 games. After a srong start in May, Harrison went into a funk in June (.681 OPS) and bottomed out in July (.519) before catching fire again in August (.892). His catching days appear to be behind him, and while serviceable as a 1B, it’s his bat that will determine his future.
Drew Mendoza Born: 10/10/97 Ht. 6’5″ Wt. 230 Bats: L Throws: R Career Stats |
Mendoza was one of two 2019 Draft picks to go straight to Low-A (Jackson Cluff), which is extremely rare for Washington. While a third baseman at Fla. St., Mendoza was shifted across the diamond where he’ll reportedly stay for good. He’s patient at the plate (34BB in 55G) – perhaps too much for some scouts, who complain about his “disinterested” presence on the field. No word on whether he has “the face.”
Leandro Emiliani Born: 3/22/00 Ht. 6’1″ Wt. 180 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Emiliani repeated the GCL but improved almost every possible number despite playing in four fewer games. Most notable change: the jump in OBP from .293 to .467 thanks to 24 more walks and five more Robles. All 38 games were spent at 1B on defense, where he made just three errors. No one at Auburn would appear to be blocking him, so it’s possible for the 20-y.o. to make his full-season debut in 2020. |
