Career Stats
Barrera was given the lion’s share of starts behind the plate for the first time in his career as he appeared in a career-high 101G in 2019. The bat still lags behind the glove—and probably always will—but his offensive production did not drop off considerably going from both High-A to AA and part-time to full-time (.721 to .704). His CS% dropped considerably (49% to 29%), though that’s likely a function of more exposure and higher-caliber basestealers.

Career Stats
After a one-year hiatus, Reetz is back on the watchlist for the fifth time after a breakout season in 2019. The light switch came on in the second half, in which he 12 of his 13 HRs and nearly doubled his SLG% (.300 to .563). 2020 will be his seventh season in the Nats system, so he’ll have every incentive to either make the 40-man or enter free agency at the age 25 in 2021.

One of last year’s “DSL Guys,” Diaz finally made it stateside and showed promise in very small sample size (24G, 95PA). He still managed to get hit five times, but also drew 13BB for a career-best .415 OBP. He did not play at 1B for the first time, so it would appear that the Nats are beginning to believe in his defense, but FWIW he was charged with just one error, four passed balls, and threw out 7 of 27 basreunners (26%CS).

Late-season callups to the GCL are generally an indicator, but five HRs in the DSL is a rarity – especially for an 18-y.o. Defensively, you might want to look away: five errors, eight passed balls. But he caught 38% of the would-be base thieves so let the Raudy Read comps commence!
