GCL Nationals Postponed OFF DAY

San Antonio 9 Fresno 8
• Crowe 4+ IP, 8H, 7R, 7ER, 4BB, 3K, 3HR, WP; 2-3, R
• Baez (L, 0-2) 2IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 2K, WP
• Ward 2-4, R, 2-2B, BB, 2RBI, E(1)
• Sardinas 2-3, R, BB, SAC
• C. Kieboom 3-5, 2RBI

A 6-1 Fresno lead after two innings went poof with three in the 3rd and four in the 5th as San Antonio took the finale, 9-8. Wil Crowe was lit up for seven runs on eight hits, including three HRS in four-plus innings. The loss went to Joan Baez on a pair of singles and an error in the bottom of the 8th. Drew Ward doubled twice and drove in two, as did Carter Kieboom while going 3-for-5. The Grizzlies pounded out 17 hits and went 7-for-14 with RISP, but 15 of those hits were just singles.

Harrisburg – OFF DAY
The Senators make their one and only trip to Binghamton for three midweek games before their second trip to Trenton for three this weekend. Harrisburg trails Erie by 12½ games in the second half, 3½ games in the overall standings and would be just a ½ game ahead of Bowie for the wild card in the previous playoff format.

Potomac – OFF DAY
Potomac comes into Frederick for games 15-17 of 24 against last-place Frederick and a ½ game behind first-place Salem. The P-Nats have two more homestands and one more road trip not to Maryland as they chase the Red Sox for the second-half title.

Columbia 3 Hagerstown 1
• Alastre (L, 4-11) 6IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 6K, HR
• Williamson 2IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 3K
• Cluff 1-3, R, HR, BB, RBI, 2K
• Upshaw 1-3

The Fireflies bottled up the Suns on four hits for a 3-1 win and clinch a series win. Tomas Alastre lost his organization-leading 11th game despite throwing a quality start of three runs on four hits (HR #15 in 99IP) while walking one and striking out six. Ryan Williamson (2IP) and Matt Cronin (1IP) combined for three scoreless innings of relief. The Hagerstown offense was limited to Jackson Cluff’s 3rd HR and three singles by Israel Pineda, Cole Daily, and Armond Upshaw.

Auburn 4 State College 3
• Dyson 3⅔ IP, 4H, 2R, ER, 2BB, 4K, HR
• Willingham 3⅓ IP, 3H, R, ER, BB, 2K, 1-0 IR-S
• Bocko (W, 1-1) 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Pratt 2-3, R, BB
• Sanfler 2-4, SB

Auburn rallied from a 3-0 deficit with a pair of two-spots in the 7th and 8th innings to stop a five-game slide while taking the opener from State College, 4-3. Tyler Dyson pitched into the 4th in his second start, giving up two runs on four hits (one HR) and two walks, but needed 66 pitches to get 11 outs, four by way of the K. Amos Willingham stranded a runner getting out of the 4th and let in one run over the next three on three hits and two walks while fanning two. Jordan Bocko put up two goose eggs to finish and picked up the win. J.T. Arruda’s two-out, two-run single in the 8th was the game-winner as the Doubledays racked up nine hits total, with Andrew Pratt and Cladioli Sanfler both going 2-for-3 to lead the Auburn hit column.

GCL Nationals v. GCL Marlins – PPD
Make that two three doubleheaders this week… weather permitting.
Roster moves: RHP Leif Strom reassigned from Auburn.

Matt Cronin has nothing left to prove in the Sally League. He has 23 Ks in 11 IP for a video-game K/9 of 18.8. He’s actually surrendered more walks (7) than hits (6). Anyway, time to get him on to Potomac. He sure looks like he’s capable of a Glover-like run through the system.

    Nice knowing you Leif Strom?
How many solo HRs in Alastres 15 taters surrendered?

This just in: Fresno wasn’t a great idea. (Duh).
