In a battle of PCL division leaders, the Grizzlies took down the Chihuahuas, 5-2. Paolo Espino got taken deep twice in the same inning, but had the fortune of doing so with no one on both times as he won for the fourth time with seven innings of two-run ball on four hits and two walks while fanning seven. No Curse of the GBI for either Dakota Bacus or Derek Self as each put up a goose egg in the late innings to earn the fifth hold and save, respectively. Wilmer Difo singled twice, scored twice, and doubled once while Jake Noll drove in three while hitting his third HR to lead the Fresno attack.

Tyler Mapes and Ramon Rosso dueled to a 1-1 tie after seven innings but Reading got the decisive run in the 9th to edge Harrisburg, 2-1. Mapes allowed six hits and in walks while striking out two. Trevor Rosenthal did pitch, but it was in the 8th as he retired all three batters he faced on a mere 18 pitches. The loss was hung on Aaron Barrett in the top of the 9th when a hit batsman scored all the way from 1st on a two-out popup that fell in between 1B Austin Davidson and RF Rhett Wiseman along the right field line. The Senators got the tying and winning runs on in the bottom of the 9th with one out but neither Davidson, who homered for the lone Harrisburg run, nor Tres Barrera could get the ball out of the infield to get either run in.

The rain may have actually saved the day as the Keys were threatening with two on and two out in the 6th. After a 63-minute delay, Potomac reliever Jhon Romero was greeted with a single to right and Frederick’s Willy Yahn was sent back to the dugout for the third out, courtesy of Telmito Agustin and Alex Dunlap combining on a 9-2 putout to preserve the 0-0 tie. Gage Canning led off the bottom of the 6th, stole second and took third on the unsuccessful throw to cut the P-Nats CF down, then scored on LF Aldrem Corredor’s team-leading 14th double. Romero, Frankie Bartow, and Hayden Howard locked it down with zeroes in the 7th, 8th, 9th innings for the win, hold, and save. Starter Malvin Peña allowed two hits, two walks, and a hit a batter while striking out four over five and 2/3rds for his fourth no-decision.

No such luck on Maryland’s Eastern Shore as two Delmarva pitchers shut out Hagerstown, 4-0 on one hit. Joan Adon went the first four for the Suns and gave up the first three runs on one hit (not a HR) and four walks while striking out one (1). Jackson Stoeckinger went the last four and did allow a HR and three hits total while walking none and striking out six. Kyle Marinconz got the sole Hagerstown hit in the 2nd and stole two bases while Cody Wilson drew leadoff walks in the 1st and 3rd, the first and third of six walks total for the Suns.
