Friday’s News & Notes
For those of you living under a rock, Carter Kieboom is expected to be promoted from AAA and join the Nats in DC this weekend. Try not to think about what that means in terms of injuries to Tony Rendon and/or Trea Turner.

Reno 15 Fresno 5
• Alvarez (L, 0-1) 3⅔ IP, 11H, 9R, 9ER, BB, 2K, 5HR, WP
• Adams 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 3K, WP
• Snyder 3-4, 3R, 2HR, 2RBI
• Hernandez 2-5
• Read 1-2, R, 2BB
Batting practice usually comes before the game, but someone forget to tell Henderson Alvarez3 as the Aces got to him for nine runs on 11 hits—five home runs—in a 15-5 demolition of the Grizzlies. Jordan Mills didn’t fare much better as he got the last out of the 4th and then pitched to five batters in the 5th without retiring any of them, walking three and giving up one hit (a grand slam). Brandon Snyder homered twice while going 3-for-4 while Yadiel Hernandez singled twice to pace the Fresno offense.
Roster moves: RHP Brady Dragmire placed in the 7-Day I.L.; IF Jake Noll optioned from Washington.
Harrisburg 10 Hartford 7 (10 inn.)
• Mapes 5IP, 7H, 1R, 0ER, 3BB, 6K, WP
• Barrett (BS, 2) 2I, 4H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 2K, 2HR
• Bourque (BS, 1; W, 3-0) 2IP, 3H, 3R, 1ER, 0BB, 4K
• Sardinas 2-3, 2R, RBI
• Goeddel 2-4, 2R, 2B, BB
• Taylor 2-2, 4RBI
Believe it or not, this was a 1-0 game until the 8th, when Harrisburg dropped four on Hartford to take a 4-1 lead. The Yard Goats got to Aaron Barrett for one in the 8th and two in the 9th to force extras, where the Sens scored six times in two frames and James Bourque wobbled through two shake innings to pick up the blown-save-win. Luis Sardinas and Chuck Taylor both came off the bench to single twice and combined for five RBI to lead Harrisburg’s 14-hit parade.
Salem 7 Potomac 6 (10 inn.)
• Reyes 5IP, 6H, 5R, 5ER, 3BB, 1K
• Lee 3IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Fuentes (L, 1-1) 2IP, 0H, 2R, 0ER, BB, 3K
• Banks 4-5, 2R, 2B, HR, 3RBI
• Reetz 2-4, 3R, BB
• Franco 2-5, 2B, E(5)
Despite digging out from the usual hole that Luis Reyes puts them in, the P-Nats couldn’t prevent the Red Sox sweep as they fell in 10 innings, 7-6. Reyes pitched a season-high five innings and tied his season-low of five runs allowed on six hits and three walks while striking out one (1). Andrew Lee three scoreless innings of relief but the decision went to Steven Fuentes, who was charged two runs – both unearned as Anderson Franco botched a would-be groundout to end the 10th for a two-run error. Nick Banks drove in Jakson Reetz to lead off the 10th for this fourth hit of the night, which included a two-run HR off the base of the LF foul pole. Franco got his shot at redemption after a David Masters whiff but grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.
Greenville 6 Hagerstown 3
• Alastre (L, 2-2) 4IP, 2H, 3R, 3ER, 6BB, 4K, HR, HBP
• Brasher 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Connell 2-3, RBI
• O’Connor 1-3, R, BB
A three-run 5th for Greensboro broke open a 3-2 game as the Grasshoppers doubled up the Suns, 6-3 in the series opener. Tomas Alastre took the loss, giving up the first three Greensboro runs on six walks and two hits, including a two-run HR, over four innings. He struck out four. It was a hard Day’s night for Chandler, who let in the last three runs on five hits and one walk, with three wild pitches over four innings. Justin Connell was the sole batter to have multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Suns racked up seven total and drew four walks.
Free Carter Kieboom! Hooray! What the [bleep-bleep-bleep] took them so long?!
It manipulates his service time so that his free agency is delayed by 1 year, right?
MLB loving this : Carter Kid Kieboom and Vlad Jr ascend to Bigs same day
What we would give to hear Bob Boone’s inner thoughts this 72 hours !!
Freaky Friday continued.
If the wheels don’t start grabbing asphalt road then when does Lerner show Davey the door and reel in Knorr??
Should be interesting to see which two fields drain fast enough for game on tonight Friday.
Freaky Friday thought.
If the MLB powers would have allowed Ray Kroc to move Padres to D.C. … some of us would not be thinking about ( RIP) Gary the Kid Carter with the number 8 if Nats do assign Carter Kid Kieboom the number 8!!
Any blue chip prospect should be called a stud if he plays in a game after flying through PHX or DFW from Fresno to DCA
Meet the Henderson (s) not the film but a new term for BP with stats kept !! Lol
Apparently Nick Banks must have seen all the negative comments yesterday . . .
Doink off the LF foul pole
The IL sometimes is a stashing list. Dragmire. Place H.A.3 there too
Reyes. Bullpen, son .
With. Henny Youngman voice
Luke we should come up with some MOLE phrases about the many uses of the IL at AAA or A plus. Lol.
Since the mayor of B more is on the run. How about Freaky Friday thoughts
If Hoover makes 19 bullpen plans will Big Head Hoover be placed in the dead presidents 7 Th IP race ?
Why not draft according to history since D.C. Loves its grave markers dotted with significant names like we have with in the minors. Lee. Wilson , Hoover… get a Grant to go with Lee.. always Kennedy plays well in DC even after Adam. … we haven’t had a Lincoln play in DC since 1865??
We like Nick Banks as a great young man on and off the field
And Bob Boone inte stands for Banks
Luis Reyes was yet again very bad. Time for some new blood in Potomac.
On the very good side, Andrew Lee, who I think is on his 3rd elbow, is having a terrific start. An ERA of 2.30 and WHIP of 1.02 so far. Easy to root for him.
At 25, Lee should get bumped up to AA post haste. TgexNsys desperately need left handed arms.”
Sure do, except Andrew Lee throws with his right hand and bats left handed. Just when I thought it was safe to not use the initial?!
Last I checked, Nick was toiling in the Indys last season trying to get back to affiliates ball.
Andrew Lee has a 10.3 K/9, 1.02 WHIP, 1.88 FIP — everything he’s doing is legit. Yes, he’s almost two years behind the curve because of his second TJ, but he looks to be completely “back.” The question still remains whether he’s more of a starter or a reliever.
Sorry Mark — obviously great minds think (and) post alike at exactly the same time!
KW- Ha!
I was thinking the exact same thing on Banks too. 🙂
Lee and Tetreault should move up soon. Does that push Braymer and Barrett to Triple-A? That’d seem to make sense. Henderson Alvarez sure looks like he’s at the end of his line, or close to it.
Let the kids play!
Cue… “the kids are alright”
Blake Chisholm should get a ticket to Hags.
Can’t see other posts right now, but with Jake Noll back in Fresno last night, I guess that’s the corresponding 25-man roster move to activate Kieboom; realize that the Nats will also need to make a 40 man roster move (assume Glover to the 60 day IL). Hopefully, this means that Rendon is now available. Realize that Davey M is not a master at in-game moves, but he’s has not been helped by the fact that the Nats have been playing with a 23 man roster with Rendon unavailable and Rosenthal only available when the game is out of hand.
KJ Harrison to Potomac, Meregildo to Hagerstown.
Boone was at the Pfitz for quite a bit of the homestand so there may be some other moves coming.
Makes a lot of sense, and well deserved for Harrison. His biggest question mark was his plate patience (or lack thereof 31.5%). He’s knocked his K% in half to 15.2%, while boosting his B% to 12.8% for good measure. And while I can’t comment on his range, he appears to have adapted well to 1B. He’d have been a lot more interesting as a catcher, but a .400 AVG plays at any position.
Regarding others: don’t know how much longer they can justify giving innings to L. Reyes (or even Raquet and Johnston who granted should have a longer leash), when guys like Cate, Peguero, Irvin, German, Guillen, Teel, Stoeckinger and Fletcher dominate low A batters.
Big news on Harrison, let’s see how he adapts to High A pitching.
This might be a change of scenery deal where he likes what the Nats are telling him.
