Catching Up On Transactions
Four players swap places on the Chiefs and Senators player lists.
As discussed in the comments, further roster moves have been made to undo/explain last week’s moves that were deemed questionable by some readers…
• Jesus Valdez was promoted from Harrisburg to Syracuse
• Ryan Mattheus was promoted from Harrisburg to Syracuse
• Oliver Perez was activated from the Syracuse 7-Day DL and assigned to Harrisburg
• Ryan Tatusko was returned to Harrisburg
With two active players added to the Chiefs roster but only one subtracted, it would appear that another roster move is forthcoming for Syracuse, which has a 24-man limit and currently 25 men listed as active. If more details are discovered this afternoon, look to this space for an update.
UPDATEAs mentioned in the comments, the other shoe dropping in Syracuse is C Carlos Maldonado being placed on the 7-Day DL.
UPDATE #2
Some Potomac moves…
• Cameron Selik was placed on the 7-Day DL
• Chris Curran was activated from the 7-Day DL
• Hector Nelo was assigned from XST
As usual, MiLB.com is listing more active players than allowed so my best guess is that J.R. Higley has been deactivated.
UPDATE #3
• IF Matt Antonelli promoted from Harrisburg to Syracuse
• IF Alex Valdez demoted from Syracuse to Harrisburg
While I obviously am allowed to editorialize, I thought it best to put it here in the comments. The “loser” in this string of events is Ryan Tatusko. I don’t think he was misled by front office, but obviously by my reporting it, the press releases issued, etc., he either had to tell people it was just a paper move, or play along with them as they congratulated him.
And that has to suck, no matter what. Especially if he is indeed promoted later this year because invariably somebody will doubt that the next move is legitimate.
Movement that finaly makes sense.
With 2 ‘lights out’ closers in Lehman & Manno, the main thing holding back their promotions was Mattheus in Harrisburg. Waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Tatusko is back where he belongs. Or, maybe he never left.
Trying to remember if anyone on the SYR roster might have had a “promote or release by” clause in their contract.
Chad Cordero is available again as the Blue Jays released him.
I would love it if Rizzo would sign him, and make him a september call-up. He was one of the first players from the nats I remember, He still is one of my favorite players
Yes, Cordero was one of those fringe guys you love to cheer for. Someoene who made it more on guile than stuff. After he hurt himself, the rest of the story seemed predictable.
After the tragedy of his SID child, I hope he finds his place in the world.
I’m sure Tatusko knew it was a week-long move to provide bullpen cover in Syracuse; he couldn’t possibly be looking at his 5.63 ERA and say, “wow i’ve earned this!”
Question: is Perez a starter or a reliever? Does Perez or Tatusko slot into the Harrisburg rotation?
I’d say that they’re going to make Perez a starter and move Tatusko to the ‘pen. Rizzo likes the hard throwers out of the ‘pen and I can’t see how a guy that can deal in the low 90s as a starter wouldn’t be able to hit mid-90s, which folks said he was doing last summer anyways.
I am still wondering if the same is about to happen to Detwiler. Rizzo has really been talking up fireballer Peacock. Have to think his promotion is due?
Oliver Perez is a complete waste of time
A waste of time, no – A waste of a roster spot in HAR is to be determined.
Here is the Syracuse move to get to 24 players…
Syracuse Chiefs placed C Carlos Maldonado on the 7-Day disabled list
How long until someone has to place a claim on Broderick?
Next Tuesday, though as Rule 5 draftee the claiming team must put him on its 40-man roster. If he passes through that period, then the Nationals are required to offer him back to St. Louis. I don’t see the Cardinals passing on him because they can simply put him right back in the minors.
