The Senators stopped their imitation of the Chiefs with a 3-2 win in 10 innings and prevented a five-game sweep by the Curve. Tyler Mapes tossed six innings of one-run ball despite walking four (one intentionally) and throwing three wild pitches. Roman Mendez, who worked around a hit in the 9th, got the “W” while Dakota Bacus kept the free runner at 2nd as he sandwiched a popup between two whiffs for the save. Austin Davidson doubled, tripled, and scored a run while Carter Kieboom walked, singled, doubled, and drove in a run to lead the Harrisburg offense.

• Bourque (W, 3-2) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 3K

• Wiseman 1-4, R, HR, RBI
Rhett Wiseman’s solo HR with two out in the 9th put Potomac past Down East, 2-1 and tied the five-game series at 2-2. Ben Braymer turned in his third quality start with the Wood Ducks run let in on six hits and walk while fanning eight. James Bourque walked two in the 8th and gave up leadoff single in the 9th but kept Down East off the board to win his third game. Wiseman’s HR tied him for the Carolina League lead at 14 with Bobbie Dalbec and the farm-system lead with former prospect Juan Soto. Jack Sundberg singled four times to lead the P-Nats hit column.

The BlueClaws ripped the Suns ‘pen for five runs over the last three innings to turn a 2-2 tie into 7-4 win. Seth Romero pitched into the 5th for the first time this season but needed 88 pitches to get 14 outs. He gave up two runs on six hits and struck out four. Carlos Acevedo stranded a runner getting the last out of the 5th ut gave up a one-out solo shot in the 6th which tagged him with his fourth loss. Hagerstown took advantage of four Lakewood errors to score four times on just six hits and two walks, highlighted by Armond Upshaw, who had one of each and scored a run, and Luis Garcia, who singled, doubled, and also scored a run. Roster moves: C Jeyner Baez placed on the 7-Day DL; C Alex Dunlap activated from the 7-Day DL.

Auburn ran its win streak to four and got back to .500 with a 14-9 win over Batavia. Washington’s 2nd Rd. pick Tim Cate made it through the 1st unscathed but not in the 2nd as the Muckdogs got to him for two runs (one unearned) in his pro debut. Nelson Galindez got the benefit of the official scorekeeper’s ignorance of Rule 10.17(c) instead of Angel Guillen, who had to settle for his second hold with three innings of one-run relief. Jacob Rhinesmith lead the Doubledays’ 17-hit barrage with four singles, followed by Jose Sanchez, who drove in two with two singles and a triple. Roster move: LHP Tim Cate (2nd Rd., UConn) assigned from Washington.

• O’Connor 1-2, 2B, RBI
Rain stopped play for five minutes before the umpires decided it’s time to beat the early-bird traffic to call the game for a 2-0 G-Nats win over the G-Marlins. Carson Teel threw threeprefect innings before giving way to “OT” Turner, who put on two with a single and a walk then struck out the side in the 4th. Bobby Milacki, who was the more effective reliever, got the win by retiring all five batters he faced. The G-Nats collected four singles and a double, scoring twice in the 3rd.
Luke. Early bird traffic to lunch special @ umps favorite eatery ?
Curious to see what Karp has
Left after FSU season . Old Expo fans keep thinking Josh Karp when seeing Karp name.
I would love to see Rhinesmith in Hags before seasons end. Raker Rhinesmith
We should refrain from commenting about a pitcher after a couple good outings : he’s turned the corner ? Aka Ben Braymer .
Rhinesmith is certainly making his bid to be the first position player to Hags. He had 14 HRs in 52 games at Western KY this season, his only D1 year after two at JUCO. He also had 13 SBs so apparently can run a little, and he took 24 walks.
I thought Bobby Milacki was pretty much a throwaway legacy pick, but he’s been good thus far, at least at the GCL level. He does have MLB bloodlines, although the Nats’ recent success rate with MLB legacies has NOT been good! (Even with kids of Hall of Famers.)
I swear I saw a puddycat! No that was Austin Davidson in box score moving from blow out in LF to catcher ??
Yes, he caught the top of the 9th inning and did well. His batting average is up over .275 too.
Thank you to Beezy Ham for the info on Juan Soto’s graduation. I was wondering.
I suspect I will never see anything like that again. Wow!
And still the best hitter on the Nats right now.
Welcome to the new #30 prospect — catcher Tres Barrera in Potomac.
Surprising that Keister doesn’t play Berrerra @ 1b to give Jax some catching duties against a tough lefty
The scouting report says that Barrera played a lot at the corners for Texas too, mostly because of a need at Texas than anything else.
True
@ casino. Play 22 win $75. Juan hits HR to celebrate. Lol
Gonna go Larry King style…
Carter Kieboom is the shit. Kid just continues to rake even at a higher level. I used to think a September call-up was a long-shot; not it will be a surprise if it doesn’t happen. I’d also like him to get some time at 2B, for obvious reasons… Rhett Wiseman appears due for a promotion to see if he can continue to smash against better pitching. He’s got a chance to be the first Nats prospect with 30 homers in a season since Tyler Moore… When I think sexy, I think young Kathleen Turner! And that voice is so sultry… Seth Romero didn’t walk anyone. That’s progress. He has a bloated ERA but his WHIP is only 1.25 and his K/9 (11.3) and K/BB (4.6) are actually pretty good. I think he’s close to Potomac. Now let’s hope he doesn’t do something dumb off the field… I don’t think we talk enough about Luis Garcia. An 18-YO hitting .292 in the Sally is pretty impressive (in the non-Soto division). If the Nats are gonna save their season and not trade Soto, Robles or the younger Kieboom, then Garcia is probably gonna have to a part of the package…. One of the things that makes Garcia easier to move is Antuna and Jose Sanchez. Sanchez, who is still just 17, is hitting .333 at Auburn… I don’t know what they are or where they come from, but I like capers… I’m still not convinced Tyler Mapes has a MLB future but the way his comeback has gone, I wouldn’t bet against him, either… I think Ben Braymer has moved ahead of all the 15/16 lefties (Taylor Guilbeau, Hayden Howard, Grant Borne, Matthew Crownover) and will be the next one to AA…. Johnny DiPuglia should be this year’s Nationals MVP… I haven’t seen it yet, but if any sequel can be as good as the first movie, it’s Caddyshack 2!
Mapes 6 th IP bullpen piece ??
Wiseman 2018- 20-24 HRs?
Another day in DSL another Brailin Fernandez extra basehit
September callup seems unlikely unless the Nats are desperate for offense and still in the hunt (former seems likely, the latter less so). No reason to start his FA clock early and then have to hold him down at AAA for two months next year if it ends up being a lost season.
Plus there are other Latin kids like Danny Hernandez young and raw in DSL. L/R.
