Updates on moves involving Syracuse and Harrisburg
By now many of you have already heard that Jesus Flores was optioned to AAA Syracuse and utilityman Brian Bixler was pulled from this afternoon’s game in Pawtucket, presumably headed for Logan for a flight to Pittsburgh. Garrett Mock is considered the most likely candidate to be DFA’d to make room.
Late this afternoon, the Harrisburg Senators announced that Luis Atilano has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday. He was replaced by Chris Rahl, an OF that was recently acquired from Arizona for future considerations.
The 27-year-old Rahl is a 2005 fifth-round pick who hit .291/.351/.462 for AAA Reno in 2010 but did not break camp with any of the Diamondback affiliates. He’s considered a hot-cold, defense-first OF (career .985FPct.) that’s spent 380 of his 645 career games at AA.
I don’t have a comment, but I have a question. Do you know the status of, and are you
concerned about, Sammy Solis? So far as I know, he is still in Viera trying to get healthy.
He looked good in the AFL, and was a high 2nd-round pick, so it seems like this should be a pretty major concern.
What do you think?
I haven’t heard any differently. But any injury to a pitcher below the waist is not minor because the natural tendency to compensate for discomfort can lead to problems above the waist and/or poor mechanics.
Most of the fantasy sites (ugh, but they’re useful in this respect) are pegging him for an extended recovery time, so three weeks out isn’t outside that estimate. It’s also quite possible that they’re holding him back until the weather improves (hell, it’s an adjustment for a lot of ballplayers simply to deal with the chill of April).
I’d be more worried if he weren’t pitching by this time next month. The way he, Cole & Ray have been handled, it’s pretty obvious that they’re going to limit innings for any pitcher in their first full professional season.
In other news, Joe Bisenius is now with the White Sox organization, and Adrian Alaniz with the Phillies.
