Syracuse 4 Indianapolis 3 (13 inn.)
The Chiefs walked off in the 13th inning – their sixth win in their final at-bat this season.
Trenton 6 Harrisburg 4
• T. Hill (L, 4-5) 7⅓ IP, 7H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 6K, 0HR, HBP
• Robinson ⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, BB, K, 3-2 IR-S
• Robles 2-3
• Hernandez 1-3, BB
Taylor Hill pitched into the 8th (and kept the ball in the yard) but left with the bases loaded and one out in the 8th. Andrew Robinson couldn’t get the K, popup, or groundball and Trenton scored twice for a 2-0 win in the finale. Victor Robles singled twice and was removed from the game for no discernible reason aside from Matt LeCroy’s whim (didn’t run hard enough from first base on a two-out ground ball to the second baseman?). Yadiel Hernandez also reached base twice with a single and a walk, but the Sens were limited to six hits total and left on nine baserunners.
Potomac 2 Winston-Salem 1
• Baez (W, 3-8) 5IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 4BB, 7K
• Rivera (H, 2) 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Mills (SV, 2) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Johnson 1-2, 2BB, 2SB
• Davidson 2-4, R
The P-Nats scored twice in the 1st and three pitchers made it stand up to take the game, and the series from the Dash, 2-1. Joan Baez allowed the lone, unearned run on two hits and four walks while striking out seven for his third High-A win. Mariano Rivera III followed with two scoreless for the hold as did Jordan Mills for the save. Jake Noll’s two-run double cashed in a single by Austin Davidson and walk by Taylor Gushue; all three reached with two out in the 1st. Potomac was limited to five hits and five walks total, led by Davidson’s two singles and two walks by Gushue and Daniel Johnson. With losses by both Salem and Frederick, Potomac is now just one game out of a playoff spot, and 1½ games ahead of Wilmington. Roster moves: RHP Kyle McGowin reassigned to Harrisburg; RHP Austen Williams activated from the 7-Day DL.
Kannapolis 3 Hagerstown 2 (11 inn.)
• B. Hill 6IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 7K, HR
• Howard 3IP, 2H, 0R, BB, K
• Morse (L, 0-2) 2IP, 2H, R, ER, 0BB, 5K
• C. Kieboom 2-4, R, BB, HR, 2RBI
• Boggetto 2-5, 2B
Twice the game-winning run was cut down at the plate, enabling the Intimidators to edge past the Suns, 3-2 in 11 innings. Anderson Franco was gunned down in the 9th and Angelo La Bruno was forced out on a bases-loaded grounder to short in the 10th. Brigham Hill turned in a quality start of two runs on a walk and six hits while striking out seven over six innings. The loss went to Phil Morse on a sacrifice fly in the 11th. Carter Kieboom homered to account for both Hagerstown runs. The Suns remain in 3rd place, two games behind the Grasshoppers and the Crawdads and percentage points ahead of the Power.
Auburn 5 State College 3
• Crowe 3IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, WP
• Brasher (W, 1-0) 2IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 2K
• Scudder 3-3, R, BB, RBI
• Meregildo 1-3, R, BB, HR, 2RBI
Auburn rallied for three in the 8th to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 win. Wil Crowe tossed three scoreless innings in his fourth start for Auburn. Jared Brasher got the win in relief with a goose eggs in the 8th and 9th innings. Jake Scudder reached base four times with three singles and a walk and drove in a run while Omar Meregildo homered and walked to lead the Doubledays offense.
GCL Nationals – OFF DAY
The G-Nats hold a 3½ game lead over G-Astros, G-Marlins, and G-Cards with 11 games left to play. Today, they face the last-place G-Mets.
Let’s play Who’s Been Better Since Their Promotion:
Choice A:
27 G, 114 AB, .325/.384/.500, 12 XBH, 9/10 SB
Choice B:
25 G, 98 AB, .306/.364/.459, 10 XBH, 7/8 SB
Doesn’t really matter who you prefer (Johnson and Robles, respectively, if you couldn’t guess). They’ve both been excellent.
when you factor in Robles is two years younger at the higher level….
but your point is correct, they’ve both done well
Robles is catching up stat-wise tonight. 3-5, 2B, ITPHR, SB. Up to .320. Call him up!
Choice A:
11.2 IP, 2.31 ERA, 1.20 WHIP
Choice B:
6.2 IP, 9.45 ERA, 1.95 WHIP
Crowe vs. Romero at Auburn, with admittedly a very small sample size. Romero does have 11 Ks in those 6.2 IP, but also 7 earned runs allowed
when you factor in Romero is nearly two years younger at the same level…
but your point is correct, Crowe has done well
😉
touché!
It’s a whole lot easier rooting for Crowe.
Exactly. I hope Romero holds it together and fulfills his potential. But it was a talent-trumps-everything else pick, so the talent darn well better show up.
I’ve noted before that the age clock would be ticking a whole lot faster for Crowe, who is a fourth-year junior because of his TJ year. I just hated all the utterly insane talk from before the draft about how Romero would be in a major-league bullpen by playoff time. It was hogwash then, and it certainly is now.
natteringnabob: In the Harrisburg game I attended, Voth was throwing 85-86 and topping at 88 according to the scoreboard display. The display measured Self at 91-92 and Valdez at 93-94.
That’s not good – even if the gun is “cold” it’s usually not going to be more than 2 mph off.
Thanks for moving this forward, as it was a response to my “what’s wrong with Voth” post. Those are troubling numbers to say the least. Something’s not right there. Does anyone recall what Voth’s peak velocity was? I’m thinking 92-94 range, but that may be giving him a couple of MPH. Whatever it was, this is a significant dip.
Just confirms what was obvious from Voth’s performance.
No more the phrase. Fear the Voth!
Which kids deserve a cup of coffee on suns if they reach post season ?
