Balester Recalled From Syracuse
No word on any related minor-league moves yet.
The Washington Nationals have placed Todd Coffey on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 9, and recalled Collin Balester from Syracuse to take his place on the 25-man roster. As of this writing, no corresponding moves with either the Chiefs or the Harrisburg Senators to backfill Balester’s spot on the Syracuse roster have been announced.
Coffey is eligible to come off the DL as early as one week from today. Henry Rodriguez’s 20-day rehab assignment is expected to end on Tuesday, perhaps delaying a decision on the minor-league rosters or resulting in another DL assignment. Details to be added as they become apparent below.
There’s a lot of corresponding moves that will resemble a chess match coming soon.
Curious what happens in Hagerstown with Harpermania & a doubleheader. Almost too much fun.
A little three-card-monte in the Nationals’ bullpen with Coffey, Balester, & Rodriguez, imo. Balester might just be a butt on the bench until they activate Rodriguez. Meanwhile, Coffey could stay on the DL until Rizzo can make either a decision or deal on Broderick.
Glad to see Rizzo is being proactive … another 100 loss season is more than the fanbase can forbear. And right now Bernadina, Bixler, and Bynum look a whole heck of a lot better than Hairston, Cora and Ankiel. That’s where one would think another move would be made. Hairston is a complete zero with the bat and Ankiel is the Ankiel of 2010.
The big power guys Frazier and Tyler Moore are off to alarmingly slow starts as is Corey Brown. However, the pitching, especially in Syracuse with Detwiler and Milone continues to look tantalizing in its promise. Especially after 2 kind of early devastating losses to the Phillies.

“Ankiel is the Ankiel of 2010”
I’m guessing you meant to say: the Justin Maxwell of 2010.
Of course afther the comments of Peric, Hariston goes and has a career day yesterday. I saw Harper and Co. at the first game Sunday. Harper struck out looking twice (the Ump was giving a very low strike) and had a rbi single. He made two very good plays in the field, one going backwards and to his right to make an over the shoulder catch in the corner, the other coming in hard on a blooper down the line, he dove, caught it, and came up throwing a laser to second base barely missing doubling up the runner there. Oduber is the real deal al
it appears that Tanner Roark has been assigned to AA Harrisburg, as MiLB has him active
Nope. If you do a lookup on a player that’s still in the organization, but unassigned, they’ll list his last assignment. Joe Testa, for example, is still listed as being with Potomac roster when you look him up, but when you look at the current roster, he’s not there. Do a lookup on Jack McGeary, and MiLB.com will tell you he’s with Vermont, which would be accurate only if he had been traded to the Oakland A’s organization.
