Joe Ross pitched seven innings and the offense scored seven times, building a lead big enough for the bullpen not to blow as the Chiefs beat the Bisons, 7-5. Ross allowed one run and scattered eight hits wile walking one and striking out six. Joe Nathan let in two inherited runners before getting the last two outs for his fourth save. Jhonatan Solano got the Syracuse offense going with his first career grand slam in the 5th, while Adrian Sanchez and Grant Green both singled three times to lead the 11-hit, seven-walk attack. Harrisburg put up crooked numbers in four straight innings to erase an early 2-0 deficit and cruise to a 12-4 win over Bowie. Taylor Hill kept the ball in the yard and prevented nine of 12 baserunners from scoring as he won his first AA game of ’17 with six innings of three-run ball. Stephen Perez, Raudy Read, and Neftali Soto each homered while Drew Ward walked three times to pace the Senators offense.

The P-Nats fell behind early and could never catch up as the Blue Rocks took Game 3 by a 5-2 count. Matt Crownover pitched into the 7th and struck out a season-high nine batters but was charged with four runs on nine hits and no walks over six and 2/3rds. Taylor Guilbeau gave up an unearned run in the 9th while closing out the final two and a 1/3rd innings. Austin Davidson reached base three times with a homer, walk, and a single but the team was held to four hits and two walks total. Roster move: RHP Noaln Sanburn assigned from Washington Nationals.

Hagerstown – OFF DAY
After a 4-3 roadtrip in GA and NC, Hagerstown returns home for four games against Lakewood (nos. 7-10 of 24, if you were wondering) before heading back out on the road for another seven games next week.

  1. Looks like good progress on the Joe Ross reclamation front, although the eight hits scattered are a little concerning. It’s also good to see Stevenson on a little spurt after a terrible start at AAA. He’s hit in five of the last seven games.

    Also good to see that Austin Davidson homered for the second day in a row.

    1. KW, you brought this up weeks ago, but it’s still relevant. Why hasn’t Davidson been moved to Harrisburg by now? He’s consistently hit at an .800 OPS rate and there is NO ONE blocking him in AA.

      Unsung Drew Ward is hitting at an .800 OPS rate and he’s still only 22.

      1. Davidson has been in a bit of a funk the last couple of weeks but seems to be coming out of it. But there’s really no one playing 2B at Harrisburg who projects in any way, so no one really standing in the way of promotion.

        Davidson will take a walk, and in what little I saw of him last year, he made consistent contact. Luke, who has seen him a lot more often than I have, has not been as intrigued, or at least wasn’t last season. I don’t know whether his opinion has evolved.

        Speaking of Ward, is the time coming soon to push him on to AAA so there’s a AA place for Gutierrez? Ward is actually three months older than Gutierrez. Of course the confounding thing about Gutierrez is the lack of power. He’s built for power and he plays a power position, but he’s only got seven career HRs.

        2. I wouldn’t oppose Davidson getting the bump, and he’s shown some decent power of late, but I still think he’s topped out.

          1. The other reason to push Davidson on up the food chain is that he’s already 24. Time to find out if he’s really got a chance. Norfolk (age 28) and Perez (age 26, .145 BA) are playing 2B at Harrisburg. The Nats are dreadfully thin on middle infielders in the upper minors.

            (Speaking of such things, I just noticed that Abreu has totally forgotten how to take a walk. He had 55 at Potomac last year but only three so far in 2017. When Mejia has twice as many walks as you, that ain’t good!)

          2. June draft should target some
            NCAA guys to excelsrate to replace those ceilings out

          3. The Nats really hit this area hard last year, drafting Kieboom, Neuse, and Noll and signing Antuna and Garcia.

    1. Was he added to the restricted list? Sounds like a PED suspension like Rodriguez yesterday.

      1. I hope the organization does the best that it legally can to help look after the suspended players. Most minor leaguers aren’t making much money anyway. The Latin kids are in the States on visas. Do they lose the visas while suspended and have to reapply?

      2. Restricted list is also used for when guys retire; it’s kind of a catch-all. BA keeps a running total of suspensions here.
