Taylor Hill let in both PawSox runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings but lost for the organization-leading 13th time. Jason Martinson’s RBI double accounted for the lone tally as the Chiefs were a woeful 1-for-10 with RISP. Steve Lombardozzi led the hit column with two singles. Roster move: OF Matt den Dekker outrighted from Washington.

• Bautista 4-4, R, SB

Mapes gave up eight hits and two walks and hit a batter while fanning one as he lost for the tenth time. Rafael Bautista singled four times, scored a run, and stole a base, but the rest of the line up mustered just three hits and a walk.

Harrisburg 3 Hartford 0 – GAME TWO
• Simms (W, 8-5) 5IP, 4H, 0R, 0BB, 4K, HBP; 0-0, 2BB

Suero worked around two singles in the 6th then set the side down in order in the 7th for his fourth save. Adrian Sanchez doubled twice, drove in a run, and scored a run while Nick Rickles singled and homered to lead the Harrisburg attack. Playoff update: Akron also won to push Harrisburg to the brink of elimination; the RubberDucks must lose twice and the Senators must win twice to make the playoffs.

• Read 3-7, 2B, RBI, PB(19)

Potomac got a ton of solid pitching and a pound of adequate catching as they gave away this one in 14 innings, 5-4. A passed ball in the 6th let in the tying run after the P-Nats battled back from 3-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead. In the 14th, a wild pitch took away the double play and allowed the winning run to get to 3rd with just one out. R.C. Orlan took the loss as he gave up the final Pelicans run on two singles and no walks. Matt Crownover recovered from a three-run HR in the 1st to turn in six strong innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out nine. Raudy Read and Bryan Mejia both had three hits to pace the P-Nats attack. Playoff update: Lynchburg lost again to Mills Cup favorite Salem, 9-3, to preserve the first-place tie in the C.L. North.

Looking forward to a playoff preview for Potomac & Hagerstown; can’t quite figure out the scenarios.
    It will be fun regardless.

Soto has only been at Auburn for two games, but he is already the best hitter on the team. They should bump him up to Hagerstown for the playoffs.

Anything that extends this kid’s season, I’m all for. Huge props to DiPuglia & Co. for this one.

Auburn has resumed its game from Aug. 13 with Batavia that was halted in the third inning. Dane Dunning, in one of the longest rain delays ever, is still pitching! He started the game on 8/13 and is back on the hill to pitch the 4th and, hopefully, beyond.

So Dunning gets a complete game to his credit after pitching the final 6 innings of the resumed game after throwing the first three last month. Today he allowed one run on 3 hits and a walk with 5 Ks after having allowed three hits and no runs or walks and 3 strikeouts over the first three innings.

The nine innings combined lowered his ERA to 2.14 at Auburn and 2.02 overall and his WHIP to 0.98/0.93.

With him signing a little later because of the College World Series (and the Nats being cautious), Dunning only threw 35.2 innings between Rookie and A-. And after being mostly a reliever this year at Florida, he only threw 78.2 innings for the Gators before signing.

S0 with only 114.1 innings, combined, between college and the minors, and with Dunning only allowing 3 runs his final 24 IP at Auburn, I won’t be surprised if the Nats move Dunning up to Hagerstown for the playoffs.

The good news, since he was a reliever, that he was not abused like so many college pitchers. A good sign.

I got some fright when I saw that Dunning threw 125 pitches in todays game! Came here say ask what was up with that. Read the post from “Formerly Guest” and breathed a huge sigh of relief!

Dunning would certainly help Hagerstown in the playoffs
