The Knights hit ’em hard, hit ’em early, and hit ’em often, jousting Taylor Hill in the 4th and holding off the Chiefs for a 7-4 win. Hill had all seven runs charged to him on seven hits, including two solo HRs, over three and 2/3rds innings. He walked one and struck out three while losing his fourth game. Brian Goodwin led the Syracuse hit column with three hits, including his 5th HR in the 9th, followed by Matt Skole’s 2-for-4 effort with a double and an RBI.

Harrisburg’s defense went full Little League, allowing four runs to score on one play without a hit (just two errors) in a five-run 4th as New Hampshire scored nine unanswered runs to turn an early 2-1 deficit into a 10-2 rout. Austen Williams lost for the sixth time in nine starts, as he was dinged for six runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks over four innings while striking out two. Isaac Ballou and Christopher Bostick both singled twice to account for four of the seven Senator hits. Roster move: RHP Matt Belisle rehab assignment transferred from Potomac.

Potomac – OFF DAY
It’s eight games in seven days after the P-Nats enjoyed their first scheduled off day since April 25th. The weeklong roadtrip starts with four against third-place Frederick, then a trip to the Redneck Riviera (see #3) for three against Myrtle Beach.

Hagerstown struck for three in the 1st and the Suns pitchers made it stand up for a 3-2 win over Asheville. Max Schrock walked and scored on Kelvin Gutierrez’s double, then Rhett Wiseman went deep to complete the rally. Joan Baez pitched into the sixth and was charged with both Tourist runs on five hits and two walks over five and 2/3rds. Trey Lambert let in one of two inherited runners but finished the inning and turned in two scoreless for the hold. Mariano Rivera III stranded a two-out double to earn his fourth save.

  1. June 1 promotions and news: Crownover to Potomac and Matt Borne to Hagerstown. DSL roster is up and Juan Soto is on it. I had hoped he’d start in the GCL, but there is no hurry.

    Don’t sleep on Valerio and Pena. They and Borne have been cooling their heels. Crownover should be at A+ as a polished college product of his age, and he has proven worthy of a higher round pick. Hopefully he keeps it going.

    Who gets bumped off the island? Whiting or Ross? Maybe a matter of who takes most readily to the OG role while other arms season in Hags. Socials a showing unusual patience with arms. Rewarded with results on JRod, a few others.

    2. OK, Whiting off the island. Not surprising, given that Ross has really excelled as a starter. The Nats have a better OG class stashed this year – DeBruin back into the closet after being one of the better Potomac bats last year.

      With Fedde down, Mendez back, got to assume that Crownover goes to the rotation. Impressive lack of turnover in the Potomac starting staff relative to last year. Even with Wirkin Estevez. No one else at Hagerstwon really threatening to push up right now, unless Lee picks up his game again.

    1. Ditto. Hope someone can come up with the scoop. Too bad for Fedde, who just posted his best pro start.

      Good for Crownover, the first starter from the class of ’15 to make A+. He had stellar numbers at Hagerstown, much better than what he had at Auburn. I would guess that he and Andrew Lee were neck and neck for promotion until Lee got rocked a couple of times. It looked like Lee was back on his game in his last start, though. He would figure to be the next guy on the bus to Woodbridge.

  5. Forgive me if this has already been answered, but what happened to Hearn? Did he get injured? Also, what about Brady, the other pitcher obtained along with Gott?

    1. Brady was just assigned to Harrisburg today. Gilberto Mendez was sent to Potomac.

      Hearn fractured an ankle covering first base. The Nats are “hoping” he’ll be back this summer.

      Also, Robles was pulled from the game today. It was after he grounded out. My first thought (hope) was that maybe he did not rum hard to first.

        1. I do not, but I assume it was an injury. He pitched for them in Spring training.
