Shifting Gears
I’ve been putting this post off in the hopes that something more obvious would occur, but the combination of the rainout, another small set of cuts, and that we’re down to just two watchlist players in the MLB camp (Giolito and Turner), is enough to make the call.
Whether that it’s the first day of spring is ironic or coincidental is beside the point; it’s time to revert to offseason mode and wait for the minors to start up.
The Sickels book came in the (e)mail yesterday, so I’ve updated the “Report Not Yet Written” entries on the 2016 Watchlist and will use it as the peg for some posts this week.
I was a little bit disappointed in what Sickels had to say for the players I was holding out on, but that may very well be a factor of hoping he’d have something different to say. (Still not getting how Kieboom is pronounced, BTW).
Anyway, enjoy your Sunday… and thanks for stopping by.
Cahill. BA picks nats over Red Sox in WS
?!!
Hmmmmm
For the tribunal: who the heck is Telmito Agutin? Sickels came out with his sleeper list today (http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/3/18/11261756/the-2016-sleeper-alert-list). The Nats tied for the most on the list (4 of 60), one of the prospects listed is Agutin. I googled him & got nothing. Anyone know who Sickels is talking about?
That’s a little disappointing because I’ve been writing about him (albeit less than in years past) for the past two years:
From the 2016 Watchlist…
Agustin was one the 2014 Top 5 DSL Bats, so naturally, it’s satisfying to see the young American (USVI) progress in 2015. Agustin was the best hitter not named Robles for the G-Nats, showing unusual power (.469 SLG%) and patience (.380 OBP) in an age-18 season. Also hit well in a brief cameo (7G, 986 OPS) for the Auburn Doubledays, where the smart money says he’ll return in 2016 (the dumb money says he’ll leapfrog Robles or return to the GCL; just sayin’
From the 2015 Watchlist…
Telmito Agustin

Forty walks and 25 steals is good over 120 games in full-season ball. In 60 games of short-season, it’s outstanding.
It’s the typo that threw me – carry on!
