Slowly we are reading between the lines about
The memos passing over Bob Millers PC???
Cuban investment next year after some jettisoned
Contracts ??
How about a cyber wager in who is next up
From auburn to Hagerstown ??
Cynical Cuse fans must be muttering : you
Never have enough catchers. !! Lol!
Right , Luke?
In other Nats News, Texas DFA’d Ross Detwiler today. We’ll always have 2012, Ross.
It’s not yet Guzman for Roark and Tatusko, but the potential is still there; both of the guys picked up for Detwiler (Bostick and de los Santos) have moved up to AA at age 22.
Given how bad Detwiler was for Texas, any value we get out of Bostick and De Los Santos at the MLB level will be a plus. 🙂
I looked up Det’s numbers: 7.12 ERA, 1.907 WHIP. Ouch. He’s one of “ours,” so you feel bad for him, but Rizzo obviously read the tea leaves right on that one. You have to wonder, at his age, whether his heart will still be in it to go to AAA somewhere and try to work his way back.
I said at the time of the trade that picking up Bostick seemed like a direct indictment of Renda, who was an older 2B in the same league, and sure enough, Renda is already gone. Bostick has gotten lost in the publicity wave for Turner and Difo, and he may not be in their league, but his gap power makes him a cut about what the organization has had with guys like Renda, Perez, and Hague. He puts up a lot of doubles and triples.
Why does jo Zimm get DFAd over paternity
Leave??
Maybe Bostick can go for bench bat deal??
A few Interestings and Goods to add:
GCL: Luis Vilerio, who has bat potential, has thrown out 45% of runners trying to steal so far. Just as a reference point, Severino had a lower percentage in his first year in the GCL. Just sayin’. If this guy can keep Pimentel’s bat on the bench, he is obviously a name to know. Wilber Pena and Maximo Valerio are the impressive early starters, even with draft picks assigned to GCL. And look out for Telemito Agustin, now picking up since getting into the lineup everyday. And until Rafael Bautista starts stealing bases, he’s still working it through.
Auburn: One has to like the bb/k ratio from Erick Fedde. Other than that, it’s obviously the showcase spot for almost all of the ’15 draft picks (and Perkins at GCL looks like a project – and that’s not a good thing). I really thing it logical for Fedde to get the call to Hagerstown soon.
Hagerstown: Bryan Mejia’s early power is not only interesting, but more than welcome. Jake Walsh, at his age and his numbers, still there is a big mystery to me.
Potomac: This thoroughly punchless team actually has the best chance to win a championship of all the affiliates. Go figure. I’ve got my eye on Manny Rodriguez, of the late blooming Blake Treinen and injury lost year variety.
Harrisburg: Tony Renda’s production has pretty much maintained itself since the trade; kudos to Rizzo for that one. And the newbies (Pivetta) have replaced the retreads (Simmons) at City Island, while Mendez and Delos Santos have really stepped up their performance in recent weeks after underwhelming-dismal starts.
Syracuse: The Keyes bubble has not yet popped and Turner is afire again, just in time for the major league trading deadline to make things interesting for him at the upper level. Just wait till he starts stealing bases. It is worth pointing out that he has more extra base hits this year than Desmond, Espinosa, Escobar, or Renda, and has as many home runs as Desmond. At age 21-22. Do I sound like I am counting the days until he is promoted? Pretty much. And yes, I know the free agency clock argument.
Since Fedde is already 22, yes, I think they’d like to get him on to Hagerstown after one or two more good starts. I think they will shove Stevenson forward soon as well. I give him kudos for reporting right after the CWS and getting right to it. At the same time, I don’t blame Wiseman for taking a couple of weeks off after a long college season. Considering how few promising OF bats they have in the upper minors, though, he will have a golden ticket to advance as quickly as he can. I’d like to see them send him to AZ in the fall and really put him on the fast track.
At the time they drafted Perkins, I was disappointed that they didn’t go for another college bat. They’ve got several similar “projects” from the Dominican working out quite nicely, so why overspend on a HS kid? I hope he proves me wrong, but it may be five years before we find out.
Speaking of college bats, I hope they let Andrew Lee hit a little between bullpen appearances, just to see what he can do. He played two-way at Tenn. this season and put up .306/.388/.590 at the plate in the SEC. He slugged higher than Wiseman’s .566.
If you would have told me this winter that Danny ‘s
Numbers would slightly make up for LaRoche
Exodus and injuries ?? Great play tonight up the middle .
Nobody in Carolina League seems to hit.
Maybe that’s why brass giving more time on M&M.
Like they have a choice .
If Morales toed the rubber @ hags. Fedde should , too.
The way this season is going : Nats could make
The WS and Desmond is MVP!!
Agree on Augustin. Time on Perkins .
Ex- po bias. Barrett knows his baseball .
It’s hard for me right now to take issue with the brass over any of the offseason moves. I loved Souza and mourned the loss of power when Werth revealed his shoulder probs last winter. But the reality is that Taylor may outperform Souza this year by the end of the year.
Espinosa’s rebound is nothing short of shocking. It goes beyond the biggest surprise of the year. And when you throw in his defense and his versatility, there is a lot to be respected about those who did not give up on him altogether, including himself. He wasn’t just awful last year, he was awful in AAA last year! Stories like Espinosa’s make one (irrationally?) exuberant for Tyler Moore’s prospects to return to promise.
I am also full of respect for Rafael Martin and how he has righted his ship. Since he is on the 40 man, I hope we see him again in September. One man we won;t see who appears to have taken a leap forward ever since he worked with Wilson Ramos on injury assignment is Paolo Espino. He gets overlooked but he’s earned respect.
Another name worth reflectng on, but for different reasons, is Aaron Laffey. He made it to the Rockies this year after an overlooked campaign as a Nats minor leaguer in 2014. Which brings to mind Bleier. Apart from his home performance in Harrisburg, the guy walks very few folks. Perhaps he will earn a promotion to AAA in time, as the system has to make room for Giolito and perhaps Simms and Lopez before year’s end.
