The Myrtle Beach Pelicans picked where they left off on Saturday night with near-constant pressure on Potomac’s pitchers, scoring in four of the first six innings en route to a 7-2 win.

Nick Pivetta was the primary victim this time, strafed for six runs on ten hits over four and a 1/3rd innings to suffer his fourth loss. He failed to get the leadoff batter in each of the five innings he began and faced five or more batters in the four innings he completed.

Now credit where credit is due: The Pelican hitters weren’t lucky or getting cheap hits. Just as they did to Reynaldo Lopez, they made loud, solid contact. The most noticeable difference is that three of those hits left the yard.

Justin Thomas was brought in to finish the 5th and gave up a triple followed by sac fly in the 6th. He pitched the rest of the game and put up a quite respectable line of one run over four and 2/3rds with one walk and two whiffs.

Craig Manuel was responsible for both Potomac runs as he pulled a high flyball justinsidethefoulpole with two outs in the 3rd to plate Drew Ward, who led off the inning with a walk.

Overall, the P-Nats bats collected seven hits and two walks and left five runners on base. Estarlin Martinez, the No. 9 batter, was the sole batter to reach base twice.

With the loss, Potomac drops to 21-29 in the first half and remains in last place in the Carolina League North. Uberprospect Lucas Giolito (1-3, 4.84) is slated to pitch tomorrow, opposed by Jen-Ho Tseng (2-2, 4.26) for Myrtle Beach.
