For those of you who are thinking “WHERE’S PAUL MENHART?!” worry not — the Nationals have made him the minor-league pitching coordinator while shifting longtime official Spin Williams to “senior advisor for player development.”
Byron Kerr, as usual, has the details on what’s largely a story of “It ain’t broke, so we ain’t fixin’ it.” Well, except maybe the hiring of Rick Ankiel to “life skills coordinator” (dutch uncle was perhaps too harsh?) to mentor players in the system.
Will Coach Ankiel hold study hall and detention before or after batting practice?
Jason, Rick Ankiel can throw a baseball from wherever he is sitting right now through your living room window. That dude has one of the greatest arms that I’ve ever seen from the outfield and I ain’t missing with Rick.
That said, I would encourage Rick to add a test prep component to his study halls and detentions and I know a guy who wrote for this site last year who’d be happy to help!
Bob Milacki!
part of one of the most overachieving teams of all time, the ’89 O’s
My favorite line on Milacki was…. “built like a tight end, pitches like a scatback”.
thanks 3b11 for reminding us sufferring from too much coke zero intake on brain where bob pitched. I guess he ended career in KC like many….do….now what is the definition of Spin~s senior advisor title. somebody who h=gets his own golf cart to shuttle around B fields:::- yes or no.
Didn’t realize that Tim Redding was coaching in the system. Bet he could be a good coach as he seemed to exceed his talent with his brains when he pitched for the Nats. Sign me up for guys who do well here, maximize their talent, earn a gig with big salary elsewhere, and fail to be much of a threat in their new destinations that bought high when they should have sold high.
