The Chiefs rallied from a four-run gap with a pair of runs in the 7th and 8th innings but couldn’t seal the deal as they fell in extras, 7-6. A.J. Cole struck out five but gave up six runs (one earned) on eight hits and walked one over five and 2/3rds innings in his AAA debut. Steve Souza’s two-run homer in the 7th and Brian Goodwin’s two-run single in the 8th tied things up at 6-6 but the Bisons’ Erik Kratz, who drove in six on the night, hit a sacrifice fly off losing pitcher Mike Gonzalez in the top of the 13th.

Bryce Harper homered three times and drove in five as Harrisburg scored early and often in a 10-4 quackdown of Akron. Colin Bates started and gave up three runs on nine hits and one walk over four innings. Paul Demny followed with three scoreless innings to earn his first win of 2014. Beers are on Quincy Latimore as the sole batter not to reach base in the Senators 19-hit assault, led by Caleb Ramsey with a 5-for-5 night. Derek Self, who got the last out of the 8th with the bases loaded, was credited with the save.

Hagerstown rallied to tie it in the 8th and triumphed in the 12th for its fourth straight one-run victory, 6-5. Brett Mooneyham got the start and let up a run on two hits and two while striking out three. David Ramos recorded his sixth career blown save as the Shorebirds scored four in the 7th to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 lead. James Yezzo’s sac fly in the 8th tied things up at 5-5 to send the game into extras. In the 12th, Wilmer Difo led off with a single only to get picked off. Issac Ballou followed with a triple and watched as Carlos Lopez was intentionally walked to set up a double play, hoping Drew Ward would bat into his ninth of the season. Instead, the 19-y.o. delivered a game-winning single into left field, atoning in part for his 15th error that led to three unearned runs in 7th. Jake Walsh, who threw three perfect innings of relief, got the win while striking out five of nine batters faced.

Batavia broke up a 0-0 pitcher’s duel with three in the 8th as they dropped Auburn below .500 (7-8) with a 3-0 win over the Doubledays. Luis Reyes threw five shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out three. Deion Williams took the loss as he was charged with two runs on five hits over two and 1/3rd innings. The Doubledays were held to just three hits: a David Masters single and doubles by Diomedes Eusebio and Garrett Gordon.
Roster moves: RHP David Fischer assigned from Potomac for minor-league rehab; RHP Drew Van Orden reassigned from the GCL.

Luis Guzman’s two-run single highlighted a four-run 4th as the G-Nats shut out the G-Marlins again, 5-0. Starter Wirkin “For The Weekend” Estevez made his first appearance since 2012 after missing all of 2013 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He pitched two perfect innings with no walks or strikeouts. Andres Martinez scattered four hits over three scoreless innings for the win. Oliver Ortiz walked, singled, and doubled to lead the G-Nats six-hit, seven-walk offense.

For the second straight game, the D-Nats walked off with a little help from the visitors. Luis Perdomo drew a leadoff walk, stole second, took third on a grounder to the left side, and scored on Israel Mota’s third single of the game. Mota then stole second, took third on the overthrow, and scored the gamewinner on a wild pitch. That made a winner out of Angher Cespedes, who had blown a 4-3 lead by giving up a pair in the 7th but pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th. Juan Bermudez started and let up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three. Like Mota, Davinson Pimentel went 3-for-4 and teamed up with the rightfielder on a 9-2 DP to end the 5th.
