Three Chiefs pitchers combined on a ten-hit shutout as Syracuse took the four-game series 3-1 with a 4-0 victory. Josh Roenicke got the win, his second, scattering seven hits and working around two walks over six scoreless innings. Zach Jackson and Daniel Stange followed with two zeroes and one goose egg, respectively. Zach Walters and Tyler Moore both went 2-for-4 while Brandon Laird went 1-for-3 with a two-run double as Syracuse totaled nine hits and two walks though they struck out 13 times.

Bowie picked up right where they left off Saturday night by putting up another four-spot in the 1st as they handed Harrisburg a 6-2 loss, ending the Sens’ seven-game win streak. Brian Dupra returned from a spot start in AAA but lost the strike zone with five walks in five innings while giving up five runs on… wait for it… five hits. Qunicy Latimore reached base four times with three singles and a walk while Jason Martinson went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Senators registered eight hits and four walks total on offense.

Potomac couldn’t hold leads of 2-0 and 5-3 but scored three in the 8th to take the series finale against Winston-Salem, 8-6. Mike McQuillan twice came up big with two-RBI hits, doubling in the 5th and singling in the 8th to plate the go-ahead runs as he went 3-for-5 to lead the P-Nats attack. Dakota Bacus pitched six innings, giving up three on seven hits and two walks while striking out four but got a no-decision. The win went to Chris Manno, who pitched a high-wire 8th, while Bryan Harper nailed it down in the 9th for his 1st save of 2014. While not official (yet), according to little bro Bryce, Bryan is on his way to Harrisburg.

The Suns bats, which had gone dead for much of the past week, awakened for three in the 6th and four in the 7th as they dropped the Drive, 8-5 to avoid a series sweep and break a four-game losing streak. Alas, it was too little, too late as the Greensboro Grasshoppers completed the improbable feat of winning 10 straight (the first three against the Suns) to finish the half and win the Sally League Northern Division first-half title. Starter Austin Voth was dinged for three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings but got yet another no-decision (six in 13 starts). The win went to David Napoli in his Low-A debut while Jake Walsh stranded two in the 8th and closed it out in the 9th for his eighth save. Roster moves: RHP Jake Johansen activated from the 7-Day DL, IF John Wooten placed on the 7-Day DL.

Diomedes Eusebio’s three-run shot in the 8th broke up the shutout bid but Batavia, um, doubled up Auburn, 6-3. Starter Luis Reyes took the loss, giving up a two-run homer in the 1st and three hits total over five innings, walking one and fanning six. The Muckdogs scored four against reliever Matt DeRosier in the 7th to break it open. Eusebio also doubled and went 2-for-4, while Jose “Orange” Marmolejos-Diaz went 1-for-3 with a walk as the Doubledays were limited to just six hits and four walks on the afternoon.

DSL Nationals — OFF DAY
The D-Nats remain in 2nd place in the Boca Chica South at 8-5, though they’ve lost two straight. This week it’s home games against the Mariners, Cardinals, and Orioles2 while they visit the Cards and O’s-dos y Los Rojos.
