Buffalo scored seven unanswered runs on the Syracuse bullpen as they doubled the Chiefs, 8-4 to split the two-game series. Spot starter Brian Dupra gave up three runs on five hits and a walk over four and a 1/3rd innings. Zach Jackson was able to strand one runner and preserve a 3-3 tie in the 5th but was lit up for two runs on three hits in the 6th to take the loss. Jhonatan Solano extended his modest six-game hit streak with a 3-for-4 game, hitting a double and driving in two while Destin Hood went 2-for-4 to account for five of the 10 Syracuse hits. Taylor Jordan was reportedly skipped due to a “little dead arm,” per Doug Harris via Syracuse.com’s Lindsay Kramer. Roster moves: RHP Brian Dupra reassigned from Harrisburg, LHP Mike Gonzalez placed on 3-Day TIL.

After 62 games, the Senators have finally strung together three straight wins with a 6-4 triumph over Erie. Harrisburg rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 4-3 with rallies of three, two, and one in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings. Adrian Sanchez led the Sens hit parade with a 3-for-4 night, followed by Matt Skole at 2-for-5 and Jason Martinson at 1-for-3 with a walk; both Skole and Martinson drove in two. The win went to Neil Holland with three scoreless innings in relief, though he did let one of two inherited runners. Starter Omar Poveda was knocked out after four innings, touched for three runs on five hits, including his sixth HR surrendered at AA and ninth overall. Rafael Martin worked the 9th, putting two baserunners on with a walk and a single but keeping the Seawolves at bay for his 1st save.

Carolina struck for three runs in the 1st and built a 6-1 lead after five, holding on for a 6-4 win over Potomac. Dakota Bacus was charged with the first four Mudcat runs, filleted for nine hits over four innings. He walked one and struck out two while dropping his won-loss record to 2-2. The P-Nats took advantage of two errors and four walks to score four times on just five hits, the last of which cleared the wall for Pedro Severino’s fourth home run. The loss, combined with a Lynchburg win, keeps Potomac’s magic number at four with six games left to play. The Hillcats are 2½ games behind but will finish the half on the road with one more tonight in Myrtle Beach and four over the weekend in Salem. The P-Nats return home for five against the Dash, including a scheduled doubleheader on Friday.

Austin Voth retired the first 18 batters in a row before losing the perfecto and the no-no on consecutive batters in the 7th. He finished the frame. David Ramos picked up where Voth left off and retired the last six batters to combine on a one-hit shutout and a 2-0 Hagerstown win over Lakewood. Voth struck out six over his seven innings. Ramos fanned two in the 8th and 9th innings and earned his first save. Wilmer Difo and Isaac Ballou both went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Suns offense, which was held to eight hits and one walk total. Hagerstown’s magic number is down to two, as Greensboro won its fifth straight but remains four games behind in the Sally League North.

The D-Nats rallied for two runs in both the 8th and 9th innings to tie it, but the D-Yankees1 walked off in the 9th on a homer to the first batter for a 7-6 victory and their seventh straight win. Starter Jose Nunez was charged with four runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two but got the no-decision. The loss went to Stephen Fuentes. Anderson Franco doubled twice and walked once while driving in two to lead the hit column, as the D-Nats mustered just six hits but walked seven times in the loss.

  1. Both the PNats & Hagerstown look positioned to win their halves this week. That would be great, plus you have to figure we’re going to see some of the Suns up in Potomac in the 2nd half.

    Mannos minions are back in the game; just waiting for his 1st appearance; maybe during this homestand.

  2. It’s nice to see 11th round pick Weston Davis RHP signing as another HS pick for the Nats.

    1. The Nats could only have offered him 100K max, so he must really have not wanted to go to school.
      That has me thinking. Teams used to offer these High School guys college tuition to cover them if they don’t make it. I wonder if they can still do that with the new agreement. Anybody know?

      1. In today’s world its better to be a rich college student than a poor one. College campuses are a good place to visit to see the growing dichotomy between the wealthy and the struggling folks. Scholarships are great but you pay for them with time doing athletics and that typically alters your projected degree trajectory.

        If you can get a ball club to pay you to go to school during the offseason its always better.

      2. 1. You actually can offer more than $100K (in fact you can offer any amount you want). It’s just that any amount over $100K counts against the draft pool for signings in Rounds 1-10, so as long as the Nats could sign some of the players in those rounds below slot, they might have offered Weston more.
        2. You apparently can still offer to pay for college tuition without it counting against the slot amount, as the Indians apparently did that with Justus Sheffield

  3. What’s the scouting report on Wilmer Difo? He’s shown flashes of power like this before, but never for such a sustained period of time. How is his defense at 2B? Can he stick there or will he move?

  5. Manno pitched already according to my sources his velocity was very good and his stuff was electric , just had some trouble with location as to be expected(time off) but as usual he struck out 2 in 2/3 of inning no runs so no damage

    1. The devotion to Chris Manno is admirable, but he is a 25 year-old middle reliever pitching in Single A. He is now more than 2 years older than the league average in the Carolina league. That is the profile of organizational filler.

      1. Age is a WHOLE lot more important for hitters than pitchers. Just ask Tanner Roark. That said, Manno will probably be heading to Harrisburg soon, as AA was where he plied his trade the last 2 years.

Pilchard not a minion and do not like speaking about 1 player to much but you are correct he is a 25 year old middle reliever but that is where it stops. he is only in A ball because he has not pitched all year and management just wants to get him some work. He is certainly a AA pitcher and more then likely a AAA guy. Trust me when I tell you he may not be a top prospect and I will agree with that, but in no way shape or form is he a filler. this guy will be out of baseball before he becomes a filler

  7. Frank, I covered him in Pensacola and spoke on Doug’s blog for the reds, so I can share this with you. Manno is a guy that will either shoot to the top or be out of baseball. Not because he will be asked to leave but because he will choose to move on in his life. A guy like this will not be a minor league guy for long very much like Worms and Van Arden. These guys were very good students at Duke, Does anyone really think they will be 28 year old guys in minor league ball

    1. Got to agree with this comment. You don’t go to Duke to spin your wheels being exploited in Milb. Manno’s gonna pursue his dream and he’s gonna make it! And any experience he gets in Milb generates experience, contacts, and professional credibility should he choose to operate in any other aspect of professional or amateur baseball for his career. I don’t like Duke until it comes time for my students to apply to college. Then I dig it because you’re getting an awesome degree and anybody who succeeds there athletically is historically great.

    1. I see that Matthew Page and Alec Keller from this year’s draft are already on that roster. Just curious, as the Nats make additional signings do they usually shuffle this roster to add more of the new players in?

      With all of the success of the GCL Nats last year, there are a bunch of the Doubledays that certainly earned their promotion … perhaps some of them get bumped up to Hagerstown if the Nats sign more of their top draftees?
