• Delcarmen (SV, 3) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Laird 2-4, R
• Burriss 1-3, 2B, 2BB, 2RBI, CS
Emmanuel Buriss’s two-run double in the 5th proved to be the game-winner as the Chiefs went back over .500 with a 3-0 shutout of the Mud Hens. Taylor Hill went the first five innings, allowing just two hits, no walks and striking out four. A 116-minute rain delay forced him from the game, but Mike Gonzalez and Manny Delcarmen combined for two scoreless frames apiece to earn the hold and save, respectively. Brandon Laird was the sole Syracuse batter to have multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Burriss also walked twice to reach base three times. Roster move: LHP Tyler Robertson placed on the 7-Day DL.
Akron 4 Harrisburg 2

• Bates 3IP, 4H, 0R, 0BB, 2K

• Taylor 1-3, R, BB, OF assist at HP
Akron had their ducks in a row as they hit three homers in a 4-2 win to complete the three-game sweep of Harrisburg. Veteran Brad Meyers served up two of the longballs, and three runs total on five hits over four innings for his first loss. He walked one and struck out two and left on the losing end of a 3-1 score. Kevin Keyes homered in the 7th to pull the Sens within one at 3-2 but the RubberDucks answered with their third HR with two outs in the 8th for the final score.

All seven runs came in the 3rd as the Keys got six consecutive hits to open the inning and sent 11 men to the plate to turn a 3-0 deficit into a 7-3 advantage. Stephen Perez and Shawn Pleffner both reached base four times, combining for five hits, four runs, three doubles, three walks, and two RBI. Brandon Miller left the game in the 3rd after suffering an apparent leg injury while running out a double-play groundout.

Lakewood continues to be Hagerstown’s bitc… er, favorite opponent as the Suns took their eighth straight game from the BlueClaws with a 4-2 win, their fourth straight win and 30th of the season. Nick Pivetta went a season-long seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four to win his Sally Lg.-leading sixth game. Drew Ward went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the hit column. Rafael Bautista started the scoring with a two-run double in the 2nd and scored when Lakewood committed an error trying to prevent his 14th steal of the season. Roster moves: RHP Dixon Anderson retired, LHP Joseph Webb reassigned from XST.
Love these daily recaps.
Minor point: for the past several days (through the Kannapolis series, and now today), you’ve had Hagerstown playing against Hickory. Might want to double-check that when you update the template for tomorrow’s games.
Thanks for doing all the work to put these together.
Think I got ’em. As you inferred, I do cut & paste from previous days and sometimes miss one of the places where an opponent is listed. Told my copyeditor about it, but she seemed a bit preoccupied.
Anderson Retired!? Didn’t see that coming. I mean, yeah his numbers aren’t great, but he had a couple of good outings to start the season. I wonder if he’s hurt. We’re talking about a guy who made the all-star team last year.
Would love to know more details if anyone has them. Can’t find anything on google right now.
Hadn’t ever noticed Andrew Cooper’s name before, but that 4-0 record / 2.74 ERA caught my attention. Looks like he’s been doing a nice job as a long middle reliever, and is now getting his first start. Did Rizzo get another “find” in the 12th round?
Is Taylor Hill a legit MLB prospect or organizational filler?
His numbers over the last two years are strong, and his start this year has been exceptional (1.99 ERA, 0.926 WHIP, 7/41 BB/K). With Treinen and Hill (not to mention Taylor Jordan), the Nats have a nice pair of AAA starters that appear to be ready and do a competent job on the MLB level if needed.
Rangers could use a hill or even better
Tatusko!! Fish out some myrtle beach
Or hickory bats
Wooten up to fill in for miller time, Luke??
Any word on how the auburn guys are doing in

Anderson had been on shelf many months
Including last season.
Who knows. Maybe he will return for somebody
Interesting article on Hicks from the Twins today as the manager and management talks about his lack of work ethic etc. Sounds like they moved him too fast to the bigs by moving Span and now are shocked that he is hitting .170. Wonder if some of this is what goes on with Goodwin? IMO he has been handed each level and really has underperformed at each. I am starting to really become a believer in Michael Taylor. Same K problem as Goodwin but producing at the plate.
Goodwin has a .386 OBP and works counts. If he continues to get on base, he’ll get a shot, but he might never hit for average.
Melissa,
You have seen his strikeout counts right? I think he works counts until there are 3 strikes.
I listen to games on the radio about once a week. And I looked up the stat, and he’s averaging 4.6 pitches per plate appearance (league average is 3.86).
