Louisville only scored in two of nine innings, but the four-run 1st and two-run 8th were enough to win, 6-4. Danny Rosenbaum was roughed up early but settled down to turn in six innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while fanning five. Erik Davis took the loss when a error by Zach Walters led to two unearned runs. Chris Rahl, who had an eight-game hit streak snapped on Sunday, went 4-for-4 with a double to lead the Syracuse attack, which included homers by Tyler Moore and Walters (third straight game).

Three home runs — two over the wall, one of the Little League variety — were the undoing of the Senators in a 4-3 loss to the Fisher Cats. Starter Taylor Hill pitched six and 2/3rds innings and scattered nine hits, including a solo HR, for two runs while walking one and striking out four. Tyler Herron stranded a runner to end the 7th but gave up a solo shot that tied the game to lead off the 8th. A two-out single turned into the game-winning “homer” as Brian Goodwin couldn’t field it cleanly and Steve Souza committed a throwing error on the relay back to the infield. The Senators led at one point, 3-0, scoring three times in the 3rd with Jimmy Van Ostrand driving in two with a double.

Salem flirted with a no-hitter for six innings and broke open a 3-1 game with two in the 9th for a 5-2 win over Potomac. Blake Schwartz took the loss despite the quality start of three runs on six hits over seven innings. Rafael Martin followed him and retired the side in order in the 8th but gave up a walk and a homer to the first two batters in the 9th. Potomac rallied for one late on a walk, wild pitch, and an RBI single by Cole Leonida (1-for-3) as the P-Nats were held to four hits total. Billy Burns left the game after getting hit in the head with a pitch in the 6th, his second HBP of the game. He had walked and stolen a base in his previous two plate appearances.

The Suns broke open a 1-1 game with a four-run 5th and took the opener, 6-2. Starter Brett Mooneyham did not issue a walk for the first time this season, turning in his third quality start of two runs allowed on six hits while striking out two. Greensboro pitchers issued seven walks, enabling Hagerstown to score six times on just seven hits. Tony Renda led the way by walking once and singling twice.

After falling behind 1-0, the Suns scorched the Grasshoppers for seven unanswered runs to complete the sweep, 7-2. Ian Dickson got his first win for Hagerstown, giving up a run on three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Sam Palace and Brandon Miller both hit two-run blasts to lead the Suns onslaught, which scored seven times on seven hits and left on just four baserunners.

The Lake Monsters roared for six in the 3rd as they shut out the Doubledays, 7-0. Ryan Ullmann was pounded for all seven runs on eight hits and three walks over four and a 1/3rd innings in his first start for Auburn. Four Vermont pitchers held the Doubledays to just five hits total, with the Codys Gunter (1-for-3, BB) and Dent (0-for-1, 2BB) the only batters to reach base twice.

GCL Nationals 6 GCL Marlins 5 — GAME ONE

Hector Silvestre couldn’t make out of the 1st, but the bullpen held the Marlins in check the rest of the way for a 6-5 win in morning matinee. Silvestre was charged with five runs (three earned) on four hits and a walk. The lone out he recorded was a strikeout. Joe Webb got the win in relief, letting in one of two inherited runners but closing out the inning and pitching two more scoreless. Rehabbers Mike McQuillan and Shawn Pleffner both went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the G-Nats overcame a 5-2 deficit by scoring in each of the first four innings.

GCL Nationals 11 GCL Marlins 0 — GAME TWO

Two G-Nats pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout as the G-Marlins were blanked 11-0 in the second game. Starter Philips Valdez let up a hit and a walk over four innings while David Ramos got the win in relief with three hitless innings, allowing just a walk. Hayden Jennings led the 14-hit parade with a double and a triple and three runs batted in.

The D-Nats held the D-Cards to just three hits, but despite ten of their own, eked by with a 2-0 shutout win. Maximo Valerio celebrated his 18th birthday with six scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out two to lower his ERA to 1.39. Fellow All-Star Melvi Salazar tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his ninth save. Brayan Serrata led the D-Nats batters with a pair of singles and a double in four at-bats. Roster moves: SS Francys Peguero, 1B Oliver Ortiz assigned from Washington.
