Zach Walters To Represent Syracuse In 2013 AAA All-Star Game
The Syracuse Chiefs have announced that SS Zach Walters has been named to the International League All-Star team.
Walters, who was recently named the I.L. Player of the Week, leads the Chiefs with 18 home runs and is second to Chris Marrero with 44 RBIs. With 40 extra-base hits total (20 doubles, two triples), he’s third in the International League, three behind Atlanta farmhand Joey Terdoslavich.
Overall, Walters is hitting .246/.275/.508, but since June 1, he’s hit .316 with 8HR and 20RBI. Originally drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010, the 23-y.o. Wyoming native was picked up in a trade of RHP Jason Marquis at the July 2011 trade deadline.
Congratulations to Zach. The Nats should start now to look at him for third base. His bat and his glove profile well there and Rendon can stay at second since Espinosa is not showing signs of recovering his hitting.
I love when apparent throw-away trades have a chance to work out. One gets a lottery ticket for a mid-season trade of Jason Marquis, and it seems that this ticket might at least pay a small prize.
