“Drain-circling reliever” is a great turn of phrase. As soon as I saw he had lost the game, my thought was that the Balester – Perry trade had been a complete waste of time. Then I was rewarded with that witty concurrence. Nice.

Perry has just become a dumpster fire. Can’t see him keeping a spot on the 40-man much longer.

The Michael Morse trade has brought some great returns, especially considering Treinen and Krol weren’t the show-piece of what the Nationals got. Krol is already paying dividends and Cole likely will in a year or two. Treien, after a bit of a shaky start, has for the most part pitched very well and looks like he could develop into an effective, if not great, MLB pitcher.

Down a level, It seems like Michael Taylor might (finally) be figuring things out at the plate. Now he just needs to show he can do it consistently. If he does that, he’ll likely move up before the summer ends.

I’d be surprised to see Taylor get a promotion this season. There’s simply too many CF prospects ahead of him. Taylor would take away time from Goodwin, who himself seems to be awakening from his slump. And Goodwin can’t be promoted because Eury Perez is playing really well in Syracuse.

They don’t have to exclusively play center field.
