2013 Watchlist: LHPs

Danny Rosenbaum Danny Rosenbaum
DOB: 10/10/87
Ht. 6’1″
Wt. 210
Bats: R
Career Stats
Rosenbaum was nearly untouchable through
mid-May 2012 (5-0, 0.62) but faded badly to
finish with career-worsts in ERA (3.94),
WHIP (1.307), and HRs allowed (8). Never-
theless, the 25-y.o. southpaw still got
more then 50% of his outs on the ground
and has proven quite durable (6+ IP/G
from ’10-’12). Features a low-90s sinking
FB, CT, CV, CH arsenal.
Robbie Ray Robbie Ray
DOB: 10/1/91
Ht. 6’2″
Wt. 170
Bats: L
Career Stats
Ray was held back until early May for the
second straight season, but still hit the wall
late, getting pounded for 30R, 29H, and
7HR in his final six starts. Has a tendency to
leave his pitches up (like Sammy Solis), but
without a plus breaking ball, gets hit harder
— especially as his velocity still seems to
hover in the 89-91 range.
Matt Grace Matt Grace
DOB: 12/14/88
Ht. 6’3″
Wt. 190
Bats: L
Career Stats
Grace’s numbers have been unimpressive,
but it’s easy to see why the Nats haven’t put
him in the ‘pen yet: his mechanics are quite
nice. He’s still here in part because he
finished the 2012 season strong: a 3.09 ERA
over his last 11 starts (vs. 6.56 from April
to June) including eight scoreless IP in his
last outing. Not a hard thrower, but has
decent breaking pitches and above-average
control.
Christian Meza Christian Meza
DOB: 8/3/90
Ht. 6′
Wt. 185
Bats: L
Career Stats
A starter until 2012, Meza worked out of the
‘pen for the Suns in long relief, though he
was quite good in his three spot starts: 2-0,
0.60 ERA; his no-decision wasn’t bad, too.
Throws sinking fastball from a “5/8” slot,
changeup, and a slurve. Scouts see him as a
‘tweener — not quite a LOOGY (because his
SLV isn’t plus) or a starter (mediocre velo).
Nick Lee Nick Lee
DOB: 1/13/91
Ht. 5’11”
Wt. 185
Bats: L
Career Stats
Lee put up solid but not spectacular numbers
for the Doubledays (3.77 ERA, 1.355 WHIP)
and makes the watchlist as one of Auburn’s
top five pitchers. Has improved his velocity
from the mid- to high-80s, but is still not a
lights-out option vs. left-handed batters,
which is troubling because his best pitch is
supposed to be his changeup.
Brett Mooneyham Brett
Mooneyham

DOB: 1/24/90
Ht. 6’5″
Wt. 235
Bats: L
Career Stats
Like a Jaguar automobile, Mooneyham looks
high-performance but always seems to have
mechanical issues. “Erratic control” and
“shotgun command” have been in his reports
since his Stanford days. The hope is that
the Nationals can fix his delivery problems
to maximize his size, athleticism, and of
course, raw stuff (FB/SL/CH, 92-93 mph).
Joel Barrientos Joel Barrientos
DOB: 8/16/93
Ht. 6’2″
Wt. 145
Bats: L
Career Stats
One of the ’11 IFAs, Barrientos has had two
good seasons in the DSL and GCL. He also
got an invite to instrux this year for the
first time, an indication that he might
see time in Auburn this summer.
