Happy Thanksgiving
We’re about to hit a lull here, especially with (American) Thanksgiving coming as early as it can. That throws me off a little bit because I tend to look back at what I did a year ago and follow those digital size 13’s (47½ European).
With the end of the season reviews, it’s time to start building the 2013 Watchlist, which leads to the obligatory Top 10 lists, then the Rule 5 draft, and then the hot stove. Baseball America won’t be ranking the Nats until shortly before the winter solstice, and Sickels doesn’t appear to be ranking the teams in any particular order, so I can’t predict when we’ll see that. I try my best to have a rough idea of future posts, but the nature of the blogging beast is to react to news events (not to mention my schedule).
Of course, I’m still thankful for the opportunity to run this little website and pass along news, opinion, and information and still glad for everyone who visits, reads, and comments. As always, stay safe, use your trash can instead of your sink, show some plate discipline, and call your mother!
This site is absolutely one of the things I am most thankful for! The knowledge and insight you (and your readers) provide always add to my understanding and appreciation for the teams and players, and your visual (and other) puns are great also! Happy Holidays!
I would like to second g-burgs sentiments. When the NATS moved to DC in 2005 I was a huge follower of NAts Farm Authority. When Brian “slowed down” I was so thankful to find your site on his suggestion. I read your site every day and love your Potomac insight. Thank you for sharing your passion of the Nats prospects with us.
Happy Day for you & yours!
I was thinking with this being such a big day, you’d have an entire staff photo. 🙂
Also, I’ll have a monent of silence for Spike.
Thanks Luke,
And a happy thanksgiving from Canada to all of you on this site.
Happy Thanksgiving from Canada here as well.
Been following the minor leagues of the Nationals long before they were the Nationals. Been an Expos fan as long as I can remember….I recall when they had the young trio of Dawson, Cromartie and Valentine in the outfield, the Kid behng the plate and a picting staf headed by Steve Rogers. Seemed like a natural thing to move on to the Nationals. Being from Canada, I can cheer for the Blue Jays, but Expos/Nationals are #1!!!
I receive a fair amount of visits from the Great White North, hence the parentheticals. I know there are some in the Natmosphere that aren’t as embracing of the Expos connection, but I think there’s room and reason to embrace all parts of the Nats heritage. Maybe that’s a vestige of being raised in family with several adopted children of multiple and varied backgrounds…
I think the Canadian past of the Expos is embraced far more than the AL past of the Senators. But, of course, the Expos had a far more interesting, longer, and colorful run than the last rendition of the AL Nats. Mostly that team’s owner left a bitter pill for fans to swallow. Not unlike Mr. Loria both in Montreal and Miami.
Ah, Paul, Ellis Valentine brings back a lot of memories. He was every bit as good as Daryl Strawberry, and then he was hit on the head by a pitch. He was never the same after that.
Luke, I second the sentiments of my Canadian compratriots… thanks for doing a great job and Happy Thanksgiving.
Any analysis on new addition and former first rounder Caleb Clay?
Jeeves – I’m not so sure it was the ball to Ellis’head that did the damage but what went up his nose.
I covered a lot of it (Clay) in last Saturday’s Smorgasbord post, but he looks like yet another reclamation project.
Yes you did and I missed it. My bad.
Peejay, I believe that was Strawberry, not Valentine. Or maybe it was both. And Luke, I’m going golfing tomorrow, usually do so into early December. Just picking up on your stereotype. Not sure of this but believe parts of Minnesota are north of P.E.I., Canada.
Most of Washington, Montana, North Dakota, and parts of Oregon, Idaho, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Maine are north of P.E.I. Not sure of the golfing stereotype; I’m with Twain about it being a good walk wasted…
“A good walk spoiled”.
Personally I like the Expos connection having grown up in Niagara Falls and watching the Expos games on CTV channel 5 and a French channel #25 despite the fact I didn’t speak fluid French then. I followed the Jays and Expos, but always preferred the National League strategy in the games.
