The Red Wings sent ten men the plate in the top of the 9th and turned a 3-2 nailbiter into a 7-3 – their fourth straight. The late rally took Andry Lara off the hook for digging a 3-0 hole on five hits and four walks over the first three and a 1/3rd innings. Zak Kent got the win, his fifth, as the pitcher of record with a scoreless 8th. Abimelec Ortiz walked twice, doubled twice, and drove in three while Max Romero Jr. singled twice and drove in two to power the Rochester offense. Roster moves: RHP Eddy Yean recalled to Washington; RHP Andry Lara activated from the Development List; 1B-3B Yoyo Morales placed on the 7-Day I.L.; LHP Jared Simpson reassigned from Harrisburg.

Reading took the opener with a pair of two-spots in a 4-1 win over Harrisburg. Thomas Schultz opened the game and let in two runs on two hits over… wait for it… two innings to take the loss, his fourth. Devin Fitz-Gerald and Branden Boissiere both had a single and a double while the rest of the lineup went 2-for-24 with nine strikeouts. Roster moves: RHP Yoel Tejeda Jr. promoted from Wilmington; OF Leandro Pineda activated from the Developmental List.

Rain claimed the opener between the Blue Rocks and the Renegades. They’ll shoot to make it up with a doubleheader tomorrow.

Fredericksburg’s slide was extended to four games with a rain-shortened 7-0 shutout. Adam Bogosian opened the game and coughed up the lead with a homer with two outs in the 1st. That would be enough to give him the loss between Xander Meckley giving up five runs over the next four innings and the FredNats hitters mustering three hits. Brady Cerkownyk singled and doubled while Juan Cruz singled and walked. Roster moves: RHP Cesar Rojas activated from the 7-day I.L.; RHP Ike Buxton released; RHPs Adam Bogosian, Leodarlyn Colon, LHP Juan Reyes reassigned from the FCL.

The F-Nats dropped a 3-2 game to the F-Marlins to fall back to .500. Juan Lopez gave up a run on three hits and five walks over three and a 1/3rd innings. The blown-save-loss went to Sam Broderson with two unearned runs allowed on three hits and two walks over an inning and 2/3rds. Marconi German was the sole FCL Nationals batter to not strike out as he singled twice and drove in a run while Juan Obsipo collected the only F-Nats extra-base hit, a two-out double in the 7th.

The DSL Nationals put up two-spots in each of their last three “ups” as they declaw, er defeated the DSL Tigers 1, 7-2. Franniel Reynoso went the first four and gave up an unearned run on one hit, one walk, a balk, and two hit batsmen. Manuel Ruiz was the pitcher of record and got the win with one run allowed on one hit, two walks, and two plunks. Samil Serrano singled, walked, homered, and drove in three while Luis Tarifa singled, homered, scored twice, and drove in two to power the D-Nats attack.

Quite a few interesting transactions. I was wondering what happened to Morales. he hadn’t appeared for a few games. Is there any reporting on the injury and its severity? That’s terrible timing for him, as some roster spots will likely open up in a week. With that said, Ortiz seems to have in recent weeks reestablished himself ahead of Morales, already with the benefit of holding a 40 man roster spot.
Tejeda’s promotion is unexpected, but a welcome one. In a season with very little positivity on the pitching side of things, Tejeda has been quietly effective, with a big spike in strikeouts, though interestingly that doesn’t stem from a spike in swinging strikes. He went from 8.17 K/9 in 2025 to 10.67 in 2026, but his swinging strike rate remained pretty similar from 12.6% last year to 13.0% this year. Not sure what to make of it, but hope the changes translate to AA.
Glad to see Buxton go. Hope they clear out more of the dross to make space for more FCL arms with their season almost over. I’m looking at the following arms to make the jump:
Noah Millikan – honestly not sure why he’s still in Florida. He’s 23 and been absurdly dominant (0.90 ERA in 30 IP).
Juan Reyes – has been solid but unspectacular. 21, so ever so slightly old for FCL, he’s got a 3.95 ERA (and identical 3.95 FIP) and almost 11 K/9 IP. He can also handle more than the 41 IP he’s pitched this season.
Sam Brodersen – unspectacular (3.38 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) and wildly too old for the level (24) as a reliever, but at that age he needs to be tested at a better level (he did after all join from the Cards org, where he flopped hard in High A). Now or never time.
And that’s it. It’s been a remarkably bad season pitching-wise from the FCL Nats arms.
With the bats, it’ll be harder to find space, and there’s more good hitters in the FCL.
Looking at the FredNats roster, Dickerson, James and Ramirez have been playing interchangeably between 3B, SS and 2B and they’re not going anywhere, also blocked in Wilmington, and neither performing so excellently that they’d force a move. Then Juan Cruz has been really good at 1B. In the OF, Fien and Tejeda have locked down spots. And Elian Soto has been one of the org’s breakout players of the year, occupying LF/1B/DH. So you could squeeze maximum 2 more hitters into the roster, and one as a utility OF (though it’d be harsh to relegate Jordan Williams to the bench) and another as a utility INF (taking Manuel Cabrera’s playing time).
Marconi German is very deserving of getting pretty consistent infield playing time. He’s been fantastic over the past month or two, after a slow start stateside.
Browm Martinez, Nauris de la Cruz and Victor Hurtado have all been good enough in the OF to merit a promotion with Martinez being the best.
But the problem is that Hacopian will likely start in Fredericksburg in the infield, same for Brunson in the OF. Cuvet also at 3B, and Dugger at C (though that’s less of an issue). I really don’t know how they’ll fit everyone in. Yet another reason why ending the FCL season early is one of the stupidest ideas in minor league baseball history.

Speaking of Lomavita, anyone have any updated scouting report on him? Is there any hope for him after being such a highly touted pick?
I really don’t understand the use of openers in the minors. Aren’t we trying to develop the pitchers to get through the lineup multiple times?
