On a superficial level, it makes sense. Vivas adds some much needed infield depth at the higher levels. But Vivas doesn’t have any options remaining, hence why the Yankees offloaded him. But I also don’t understand how that helps the Nats at the moment.
Jose Tena, a literal clone of Vivas (just turned 25 in the past month, bat left, throw right, play 2B/3B, hell even a 109 vs 111 wRC+ from 2022-2025 across all levels in the minors), also has no options. So it seems that the end result will be a net-neutral move of acquiring Vivas for Tena, while losing Linan.
What am I missing?
