| Jake Eder Born: 10/9/98 Ht. 6’4″ Wt. 225 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Acquired along with Sam Brown from the Angels in a deadline trade, Eder just might be the oldest pitcher to make a watchlist. That’s how shallow the Nats’ depth is for southpaws. In the minors, he’s been a starter, featuring a low-90s FB, a plus slider, and mediocre changeup. Inconsistent command and control (and injuries) have kept him from sticking in the majors.
| Andrew Alvarez Born: 6/13/99 Ht. 6’3″ Wt. 227 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Despite what was written in this space a year ago, Alvarez is still here. Making four credible starts against also-rans in September helped pad his MLB numbers, but he won one of the two starts he went long enough to qualify. His game is changing speeds and mixing his pitches (FB/SL/SNK/CV/CH) because his stuff is not overpowering.
| Jackson Kent Born: 2/10/03 Ht. 6’3″ Wt. 219 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Taken in the 4th Rd. in ’24, Kent made his pro debut in ’25 at High-A and quietly made his way to AA by the end of the season. The 23-y.o. southpaw features the classic repetoire (FB/CH/SL/CV) but relies heavily on the fastball and changeup. Scouts have more confidence in the slider becoming his third pitch, and project that that will be the key to his climbing higher up the ladder.
| Alex Clemmey Born: 7/18/05 Ht. 6’6″ Wt. 205 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Clemmey’s command problems persisted in 2025 as the 20-y.o. issued 73 walks (5.6BB/9IP) to lead the Nats’ minors. But he also led the system in K’s with 136 (10.5/9IP) while leaning more heavily on his sinker and slider to go with the fastball and changeup. His primary breaking ball has morphed from curve to slurve to slider but upper-level hitters weren’t as fooled. 2026 will be about improving command and control.
| Pablo Aldonis Born: 3/21/02 Ht. 6’1″ Wt. 160 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Aldonis returns to the watchlist after a two-year hiatus “thanks” to missing most of 2023 and all of 2024 with an unknown injury. Aldonis came out of witness protection in May and made six appearances in the FCL before heading to F’Burg for 15 games, Wilmington for 10, and six in the AFL. He primarily works with a low-90s FB and a low-80s sweeper. |
