When you’re hot, you’re hot; when you’re not, you’re the Red Wings. Rochester snatched a 4-3 loss from the jaws of a would-be 3-1 victory to lose for the eighth straight game. Patrick Weigel was charged with the loss, though a dishonorable mention goes to Joan Adon who allowed both inherited runners to score on a pair of Robles and a wild pitch. The implosion offset a quality start by Andrew Alvarez and kept the southpaw winless. Brady House singled twice and drove in a run while Yoyo Morales and Drew Millas both reached base twice on a single and a walk. Roster moves: OF Franchy Cordero, RHP Todd Petersen released.
Chesapeake 4 Harrisburg 3
• Stuart 4⅔ IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 5K, BK
• Acosta (L, 0-1) 1IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 2K, HR
• M. Romero 2-4, RBI
• King 1-4, R, HR, 2RBI, E
Seaver King’s first AA home run gave Harrisburg a 2-1 lead that did not stand up as Chesapeake answered in the 6th with one run to tie and two in the 8th to take a 4-2 lead. The Senators got one back on Max Romero’s second single with two out but Cayden Wallace flew out to end the game for a 4-3 loss. Tyler Stuart pitched into the 5th and gave up one run on two hits and two walks while striking out five. Daison Acosta gave up a two-run HR in the 8th to take the loss. Harrisburg totaled seven hits, including a Carlos De La Cruz triple and a Johnathon Thomas double.
Wilmington 6 Hub City 5
• Sthele 6IP, 7H, 4R, 4ER, 1BB, 1K, HR
• Jimienez (W, 3-2) 2IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 3K, HR

• Lomavita 2-3, 2BB, 2B, 2RBI
• Lawson 1-3, 2R, 2B, 2BB, RBI
The Blue Rocks drew five straight walks in the 9th and scored four of them to tie the game at 5-5. A single and a sac fly plated the go-ahead run for a 6-5 lead that Samuel Vasquez converted into a 6-5 win with a 1-2-3 tenth. Chad Lomavita reached base four times on a single, double, and two walks while Cortland Lawson scored twice on two walks and a double to power the Wilmington offense.
Fredericksburg 4 Fayetteville 3
• A. Roman 3⅔ IP, 5H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 4K, HBP
• Otanez (W, 3-0) 2IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 2K
• Cranz (SV, 6) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 1K
• Y. Rivero 2-3, 2R, BB
• Rombach 1-4, SF, 2RBI
An error and a sacrifice fly helped the FredNats tie the game at 3-3 in the 7th and another sac fly in the 8th drove in what proved to be the game-winner, 4-3. Angel Roman dug the 3-0 hole for the offense on five hits and two walks over three and 2/3rds innings. Johan Otanez blanked the Woodpeckers for two innings, walking one and striking out two to earn the win. Robert Cranz worked around a walk in the 9th to get his sixth save. Yoander Rivero singled twice, scored twice, and walked once while Nate Rombach drove in two on a single and the game-tying sac fly to lead the Fredericksburg offense.
FCL Nationals 7 FCL Mets 6
• Lunar 4⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 4BB, 5K
• Johnson (W, 4-0) 1⅔ IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 1-0 IR-S
• Kane (SV, 2) 1IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 0K
• Baca 3-3, R, 2RBI
• Rosario 2-2, 2R, BB
• Barbieri 1-2, R, BB
The FCL Nationals reliever did all they could to blow a seven-run lead but fell one run short, 7-6. Darrel Lunar pitched into the fifth and struck out five but was lifted after walking four and allowing two hits for no runs. Luke Johnson won for the fourth time as he got out of the 5th and pitched a scoreless 6th. Tommy Kane cleaned up the mess in the 9th though he walked one and allowed a hit to notch his second save. 25-y.o. Tyler Baca singled three times and drove in two while 20-y.o. Helder Rosario reached base three times and scored twice to pace the F-Nats attack.
Nice bounceback outing for Alvarez after a tough time last start, and nice continuing recovery for Stuart. Alvarez is already Rule 5 eligible and Stuart will be this winter, so it’s time to find out if they’re really going to be MLB-capable.
Alas, there will be no more bounceback opportunities for Todd Peterson, at least as a Nat. What a cruel and sad way for his career to end on the Tuesday night massacre.
Peterson was part of the 2019 draft class that lost its first full pro season to COVID. We’ll never know how much that disruption affected so many in that class and the couple prior to it. Very few of those guys have “made it,” though.
Rochester hasn’t won a game all season when they score less than 4 runs, the only IL team with that distinction. to think how we all were anticipating that the pitching might be something. injuries and promotions changed all that.
it appears that Brayan Cortesia is out again today in the DSL. he came out of the opening day game and has not appeared since. he is not listed as injured on the roster. bummer
