He struck out five and hit a batter. Nauris De La Cruz walked, singled, homered, scored twice, and stole two bases while Esnaider Vargas singled to round out both the D-Nats’ hit and run columns.
Vaquero made me look. He’s raised his OPS by 92 points over last season’s anemic numbers, and he’s cut his K’s by 9%. With a wRC+ of 99, he can be said to be “holding his own” at age 20. It’s not where we hoped he’d be after all the hype and the bonus, but neither is he at risk of washing out. At age 20, there’s no reason to rush him. Guys like Souza and Michael A. Taylor certainly had slow and fitful progressions through the minors.
Good take KW
Oh come oh come Emmanuel !
I should correct my faulty math implication: Vaquero has cut his K rate from 34% to 25%, so nine percentage points.
