Rochester keeps finding ways not to lose as the Red Wings got five scoreless innings from the ‘pen and four home runs – the last a solo HR by Nick Schnell to lead off the 9th and walk off the Clippers, 7-6. Adrian Sampson dug a 6-0 after his four innings, allowing eight hits (two HR) and a walk while striking out three. Juan Yepez homered twice and drove in three while Andrés Chaparro doubled twice, walked, and plated a run to lead the 12-hit, four-walk offense.

The Senators got a pair of two-run HRs in the top of the 1st. The Flying Squirrels answered with two in the bottom of the 1st. Neither team scored the rest of the game for a 4-2 Harrisburg win. Kyle Luckham gave up both Richmond runs and scattered nine hits, walked two, hit a batter, and struck out two. He won for the fourth time. Michael Cuevas worked around a leadoff single in the 9th and a wild pitch to earn his seventh save. Johnathon Thomas and Murphy Stehly both homered as the first four batters reached and scored in the 1st. Phillip Glasser was the sole Senator to reach base multiple times as he singled twice and walked once.

Wilmington won for the fourth time in five games against Hudson Valley, 5-1, and clinch a series win. Travis Sykora extended his scoreless innings streak to 18 with another four goose eggs, allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out six. Bryan Cáceres lost the shutout with an unearned run in the 8th but got the “W,” his first of the season. Branden Boissiere reached base three times with a single, double, and a walk, as did Elijah Nunez with one safety and two bases-on-balls to pace the Blue Rocks offense.

The Hillcats scored early and often and outslugged the FredNats, 8-5. Bryan Polanco gutted through five bullpen-saving innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits (one HR) and striking out five. Roismar Quintana led the Fredericksburg hit column with two doubles and a single, followed by Kevin Bazzell with a single and a double. The FredNats were 4-for-16 with RISP and left 11 runners on base.

Three FCL Nationals combined on a rain-shortened, three-hit shutout, 4-0. Bryan Romero pitched into the 4th for the first ime in four stars, walking three and allowing two hits. He struck out two. Tommy Kane was credited with the win for striking out the only batter he faced while stranding two. Victor Farias worked around a hit in the 5th and was awarded the save. 25-y.o. NDFA Francesco Barbieri singled twice and scored a run while Teo Banks, last year’s 18th Rd. pick, doubled in a run and scored a run to pace the FredNats attack.
Travis Sykora “career” stats after a season and a third: 26 starts, 1.99 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 14.5 K9, 4.7 H9. He has 167 Ks in 104 IP and has only allowed 2 homers.
Pretty decent! The only Nat farm hand I can recall with such dominant numbers was some kid named Strasburg. In fact, Stras’s minor-league numbers (including rehab starts) were 1.99 ERA and 0.83 WHIP.
I met a young guy traveling with the first name Kanyon out of Austin so I asked if he had heard of Sykora as he was traveling with his name on his glove attached to his backpack
