FCL Nationals | Lost, 9-4 | vs. FCL Astros, 12pm |
Rochester Red Wings, 12-31, 10th place I.L. East, 18GB
Rochester’s -112 run differential is the worst in the minors, thanks in large part to the Red Wings’ 6.72 R/G allowed, which is the I.L.’s worst by nearly a full run. This week it’s six against I-90 rival Syracuse with an 11:05am game tomorrow.
Harrisburg Senators, 19-20, 4th place E.L. Southwest, 6GB
The Senators dropped back under .500 with a 2-4 series against the Curve. This week the Bowie Chesapeake BaySox come to City Island for six, including an 11am start tomorrow.
Wilmington Blue Rocks, 14-25, 6th place Sally Lg. North, 13GB
Wilmington took four of six from Jersey shore to win its second series of the season and reduce its run differential to -94, which is, of course, second only to Rochester. This week, the Blue Rocks head up 95 to Aberdeen for six with a day game on Sunday.
Fredericksburg Nationals, 17-21, T4th Place C.L. North, 9GB
The FredNats did not make hay against the last-place Shorebirds, thus rendering this series against the first-place Mudcats a must-sweep affair. Though Fredericksburg prevents runs a little better than the Lg. Avg. (4.49 vs. 4.79), they’ll be facing the best-hitting team (6.55 R/G). Even with Luke Dickerson now in the lineup, the FredNats bats have struggled to score runs (4.29 R/G, 9th best in the C.L.)
FCL Cardinals 9 FCL Nationals 4
• Stuart 3IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 3K
• B. Romero (L, 1-1) 3IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 3BB, 3K, WP
• Chaparro 2-3, R, HR, RBI
• Cabrera 1-1, 2B, 3RBI
The FCL Cardinals’ seven-run 7th turned a one-run into a smackdown at 9-1. The FCL Nationals answered with three in the 8th but could get no closer as they fell, 9-4. Tyler Stuart made his third rehab start and stretched to three full frames, allowing an unearned run on three hits and no walks while striking out three. Brayan Romero took the loss with a run on three hit and three walks over the next three innings before the bullpen imploded. Andrés Chaparro singled and homered before his replacement Manuel Cabrera unloaded the bases in the 8th for a three-run double to power the the F-Nats attack. Roster moves: OF Sam Petersen re-reassigned from Fredericksburg for MiLB Rehab.
the good news is that the Nats bullpen has been constructed from six graduates from their system. the bad news is that the Wings roster has not filled in the gaps. throw in injuries to starters Herz and Stuart, Alvarez’ regression and Lara’s struggles and you have a prescription for AAA disaster.
I don’t see it as an organizational failure as some might. hopefully Lara is not seriously injured. that would be a serious blow.
Fred MD I always say this every year
Bullpens evolve
Stuart back in Harrisburg will help out Delano Sr
With the FCL Nats’ loss, none of the 5 affiliates have a winning record. Bleak.
Looking forward to seeing what Chaparro can to against more age appropriate opposition. We could really use a bit more 1B talent at the big league level/upper minors.
I really don’t give two hoots in a handbag what the W/L records of the minor league affiliates happens to be. I remember in the aughts when Bowden [SPIT] would talk up the W/L records in the minors. But those records were built on AAAA players, former marginal major leaguers hanging on, and other old-for-level nonprospects. I care about the talent pipeline to DC.
MASN will start televising Nats’ farm team games. Here is the upcoming schedule:
