Durham smoked Rochester, 6-2 to hand the Red Wings their fourth straight loss. Chase Solesky went the first five and gave up the first four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks. He struck out four while taking his third loss. Drew Millas’s two-out, two-run HR ended the Bulls shutout bid while Franchy Cordero singled three times, none of which came with RISP as Rochester went 0-10 in that situation and stranded nine.

The Curve erased a 1-0 deficit with two in their half of the 1st and then put the game away with a four-spot in the 7th for a 9-4 win over the Senators. Miguel Gomez made his fifth appearance as a starter and was strafed for four runs on four hits (one HR) and three walks over three innings. He struck out three. Yoyo Morales, Nick Schnell, and Max Romero Jr. each had two hits and combined for three runs, a double (Romero), a triple (Schnell) and an RBI (Morales). Roster moves: IF Cortland Lawson activated from the 7-Day I.L.; C Charles Mack placed on the Development List.
Wilmington 1 Jersey Shore – GM. 1
• Sthele (W, 2-2) 7IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Cox 0-2, R, HBP, OF assist @ HP
• Boisserie 1-2, SF, RBI
Wilmington converted a 1st-inning hit-by-pitch into a run with a single, a groundout, and a sac fly and got a complete-game shutout from Travis “Sunday” Sthele to take the opener, 1-0. It was the longest outing of Sthele’s pro career, with three hits, no walks, and two whiffs over seven innings. The Blue Rocks managed five singles total, drew walks, and struck out five times.
Jersey Shore 8 Wilmington 2 – GM. 2
• Cáceres (L, 0-1) 1IP, 5H, 6R, 6ER, 3BB, 0K
• Davis 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Brown 2-4, R,
• King 1-3, BB, 2B
The BlueClaws ended any hopes of a doubleheader sweep with a six-run 1st and they tanned the Blue Rocks, 8-2. Bryan Cáceres coughed up those six runs on five hits and three walks in a one (1) inning pitched. It was the 10th time he had allowed five or more runs in 38 starts for Wilmington. Marus Brown led the Blue Rocks hit column with two singles while Seaver King and Matt Suggs both doubled as the Blue Rocks managed six hits and five walks while striking out 11 times.
Fredericksburg 12 Delmarva 1
• Meckley (W, 2-3) 5IP, 2H, 0R, 4BB, 6K, WP
• Minckler 1⅔ IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 4K, HBP, 3-0 IR-S

• Dickerson 2-5, R, HR, 4RBI, SB
• Peoples 2-5, 2R, 2-2B, RBI, SB(5)
The FredNats ended their six-game slide with a 12-1 defenestration of Delmarva. Alexander Meckley winged the Shorebirds for five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and four walks while striking out six. It was his second “W” of the season. The Force was strong with Luke Dickerson as the 19-y.o. was 2-for-5 with 4RBI, including an Earl Weaver Special to bust open a 1-0 game in the 5th. Fredericksburg racked up 13 hits total, stole five bases, and were 8-for-18 with RISP.
After starting the season red-hot, Randal Diaz’s performance fell off a cliff. Before yesterday, he was hitting .157/.241/.171 over his previous 19 games. Hope yesterday’s performance broke him out of that slump!
Yohandy continues to hit. His AVG is up to .308 on the season, almost identical to his career AVG of .308. That’s valuable even without the power to back it up. But Morales has brought power this year. 15 of his 33 hits are for extra bases and his .537 SLG is very good.
It’s only 9 games, but Dickerson is hitting .344/.432/.594. Looks like that record bonus was justified!
Congrats to Sthele for having a fantastic SHO, where he carried a no hitter into the 6th inning.
Lastly, if Elijah Green can rack up a couple more strikeouts, he’ll cement himself as the minor league leader (of over 2000 players). His 63 Ks is narrowly second to Cole Fontenelle’s 64. If you’re going to strikeout at absurd rates, at least be the best at it!
Will, you had me look up Fontenelle!! He is a “stud” compared to Green, (haha). Cole is currently in AA and has an “impressive” .232 BA in 332 AB minor league at bats. In college, he had a .320 BA over several years. Oh well!
Pitch the Longhorn alum Sthele more on a non weekend night ( Sat / Sun )
Let’s see if Cade lasts longer tonight than my attention span inmost movie plots done these days ..
