The Red Wings sent ten men to the plate in the top of the 1st and five came around to score in an 8-3 win, rain-shortened to eight innings. Andry Lara labored through four innings, allowing two runs on a home run and three hits total. He walked two and struck out two and threw 72 pitches, 41 for strikes. Jackson Rutledege fanned three and caught another looking over the 5th and 6th to pick up the win. Trey Lipscomb led the 11-hit parade with three singles while Robert Hassell and Andrew Knizner both reached three times to lead the Rochester offense.
With the big club’s bullpen having surrendered 16 runs in two games, Rutledge could be on a shuttle flight sooner rather than later. It will be interesting to see how Rutledge develops now that he’s been able to start a season and go through spring training preparing to be a reliever.
