Nats Rally Late to Edge Marlins, 8-7
The fell behind 5-0 early but rallied four in the 8th to edge the Marlins, 6-5.
Shinnosuke Ogasawara continued his bid to start the season in Rochester with another outing with barely more outs than baserunners as he gave up two runs on four hits and a walk over two innings. He threw 62 pitches, 40 for strikes and struck out two.
Joan Adon put up a similar line – 2IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 2K – but was credited with the win as the pitcher of record when the Nats batted in the 8th.
Cayden Wallace’s two-run HR following a Nasim Nuñez walk and steal got the aforementioned rally started. Drew Millas and Daylen Lile followed with back-to-back doubles to tie the game. Lile took third on the inning’s first out, a 4-3 groundout, then scored on a wild pitch.
Andrew Pinckney, who gunned down a runner at the plate in the 1st, struck out for the second out while Brady House singled and stole second before Darren Baker rolled out to second to end the inning.
Eduardo Salazar worked around a leadoff single to goose-egg Miami in the 8th for the hold. Clay Helvey retired the side in the order in the 9th for the save.
Pinckney (1-4, R, 2K) was joined in the starting lineup at RF by Robert Hassell (0-2, BB) in CF. Here’s a rundown of how the rest of the watchlisters did coming off the bench:
- House was 1-2, SB as the team’s second 3B
- Baker subbed for James Wood, who made his first start in LF, and was 0-for-1 with a walk
- Yoyo Morales replaced Juan Yepez at 1B and was 0-for-2 with a strikeout
- Wallace (1-1, R, HR, 2RBI) followed Luis GarcĂa Jr. at 2B
- Lile (1-1, R, 2B) replaced Hassell in the lineup and took over RF as Pinckney finished the game in CF
The win improves Washington to 6-5 for the ’25 ST. They remain in Jupiter to face the Cardinals this afternoon.
Michael Soroka is expected to start, opposed by former National Erick Fedde. The game can be watched on MASN live or heard on MLB Radio.
Wallace’s HR was well over 400′, the first time I can recall any power display like that. I hope the kid can go through the year healthy
FredMD: Delino , Sr hopes so too for spring roster out of the shoot .
Still interesting how the Sens skeletal April 4 (4/4) roster will flesh out . Perhaps several guys off the Wil 24 roster lead by the Baylor alum OF , Dugas and the Texas Longhorn infielder ?
Hickey and Hanrahan sure have numerous bullpen transition projects on their hands reminding us of what the Yankees bullpen evolved with in 2024.
Even more role acceptance transitions in bullpens @ ROCH/ BURG.
Thoughts ? Comments ?
Any hot fudge sundae bets on which guys grasp the bull by the horns and run with the accepted roles ?
