Nats, Astros Tie in Spring Breakout #1
The Nats rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 5-4 but were shut down for the last six innings in a 6-6 tie with the Astros.
Jarlin Susana got the start but was blasted for five runs on four hits and five walks over an inning and 2/3rds. He struck one (1).
Andrew Alvarez would give up the equalizer, for which he would be tagged with the blown save. He gave up three hits, walked none, and struck out one.
Former watchlister Seth Shuman tossed three scoreless innings to preserve the tie. The 27-y.o. allowed three hits, no walks, and stuck out three.
Offensively, the Nats squeezed six runs from six hits with longballs by Andrew Pinckney and Elijah Green. Green also doubled to go 2-for-4.
The Nats struck out 14 times total, led by… wait for it… Yoyo Morales. Don’t worry: Green struck out twice, as did Cayden Wallace and Max Romero Jr.
Wallace drew two of the nine walks by Washington’s minor-leaguers, of which only one scored (Romero) on Brady House’s two-run single in the 2nd that gave the Nats its first lead at 4-3. That was also the sole hit in 11 RISP chances, which led to 11 men left on base.
Washington’s second breakout game versus the N.Y. Mets is slated for tomorrow at 5:05pm. It’s scheduled to be televised on MASN and can be heard locally on 106.7FM
It’s interesting to look at the lineup and see who the Nats put forward as sort of their frontline prospects. Hassell wasn’t among them, so maybe they’re already thinking of him as part of the MLB pool (and ahead of House in that regard?). Not sure where Lomavita was, unless he’s dinged.
It’s really good to see Green having some success, even if we don’t really know the quality of pitching he was facing.
Also, the game must have been somewhat painful to watch with 21 Ks and 14 walks.
Well save to say Seth Shuman ( Resonance.) is back from his Elbow concern from past .
Elijah Green struck out ( Jean Harlow read a book before dinner .. snarkle)
HASS is definitely beyond the Breakout crue.
