Yohandy Morales Born: 10/09/01 Ht. 6’3″ Wt. 225 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
As semi-predicted, Morales was moved across the diamond in ’24 but it has not assuaged concerns about his defense, as he committed five errors in 45 starts at 1B vs two and 20 at 3B. A thumb injury also limited him to 75 games and sapped his power, which is obviously critical for a CI in general and the Nats in particular. He’s likely to return to City Isle to get more reps and address his contact issues.
Roismar Quintana Born: 2/6/03 Ht. 6’1″ Wt. 175 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
Quintana repeated Low-A for most of ’24, getting a bump to High-A in July before finishing the season on the I.L. Despite his size (that 175 is easily 40 lbs off) Quintana has not shown much power. He has shown a fair amount of patience as he improved his OBP to .354 from .349. He’s still playing some OF but the bet here is that he’ll wind up on 1B.
Carlos Tavares Born: 9/17/05 Ht. 6’2″ Wt. 190 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
The usual short-season caveat – small sample size – notwithstanding, Tavares improved from a .692 OPS to an .869, fueled largely by double-digit total in both doubles and walks. As with most low-profile IFAs, there’s little beyond the box scores to go on. At 19, there’s no rush to push him stateside but should he make it Fredericksburg that will be a good sign. |
