Lomavita was taken 39th overall last summer, which is the earliest the Nats have taken a catcher since 2005. He’s a bat-first backstop (*gasp*) having recently converted to the position, but still threw out 7-of-11 in 10 games caught with no errors and one passed ball. Power is his key feature, and even MASN Commenter knows the Nats covet power-hitting catchers. Of course,
Nate Rombach   Nate Rombach

Career Stats
An 18th Rd. pick in ’23, Rombach split time between the FCL and Low-A in ’24, posting an .844 OPS in the former and a .680 in the latter. He only caught about half of the games he appeared in, which could be a sign that he’ll moving to 1B. Given the dearth of power at the corners, his age is not yet a minus.
Kevin Bazzell   Kevin Bazzell

Like Lomavita, Bazzell is a convert to the position but has more experience at 3B. Unlike Lomavita, Bazzell is a more disciplined hitter although that comes with less power. It remains to be seen if the Nats will keep him in tandem with Lomavita or split ’em apart so that they catch more often. Either is possible, given the Nats history of trying multiple positions.
