Salt River Wins AFL Championship
Surprise: The Sagauros were upset in the AFL title game by the Rafters, 3-2, giving a Washington-fed team its first title since 2010.
Dustin Saenz (pictured) got the start and allowed one run on two hits and three walks. He did not strike out a batter while throwing 56 pitches and 32 strikes. The 25-y.o. Texan was credited with the win.
Robert Hassell started in centerfield and went 1-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. On defense, he had one putout and fielded three singles.
That’s all for the 2024 season, our 14th covering the Nats minors (15th if you count 2020). A shoutout to Jerry for pinch-hitting for Lee. We’re now officially into the ’24-’25 offseason.
In a couple of days, we’ll learn who the Nats decided to protect from next month’s Rule 5 Draft, which Mr. Boss broke down last week.
Thanks for the coverage.
I crossed paths with Free agent pitcher , Anthony Dificalso ( misspelled ) who was on a hunting trip out west
He’s looking to latch on somewhere .
I suggested the Nats but he’s curious about the orioles maybe
Haas and BC will be adding the numbers to AAA/ AA soon
Once again, the coverage is much appreciated!!
Thanks Luke! And congrats to Salt River, and to Saenz for an encouraging finish to a challenging fall schedule.
Curiously, the AFL “playoff” stats aren’t rolled in with the regular season ones, but the triple yesterday was Hassell’s 13th extra-base hit in 24 games, after 16 in 85 games during the summer season. Let’s hope he’s truly found something in the desert, like Millas did.
No Truman Copote jokes after that Robert Blake comm with Dustin Saenz
