Another Week To Go…

October 1, 2024

Just an obligatory post to let you the know the site has not gone dark.

Apparently, MLB has mandated the AFL begin on the first full week of October no matter what, so we’re a week behind last year’s schedule. Not sure why that is but between the coup d’état of 2020-21 and the current lapdog commmissioner* it’s pointless to wonder.
* Let’s face it: If the Pete Rose scandal happened in 2024 instead of 1989, DraftKings would be taking bets on the number of games he would have been suspended.

MLB Pipeline Updated their top 100 prospect list: https://www.mlb.com/prospects/top100/

Dylan Crews managed to sneak under the rookie eligibility threshold and retains his spot atop the list. It’s below there, that’s a lot more interesting.

Travis Sykora makes his debut at #79, a pretty meteoric and highly deserved rise.

Brady House tumbles to #84. I don’t recall where he was exactly before this, but based on his AAA struggles, it’s not undeserved.

Then Jarlin Susana sneaks on at #90. He might have been #100, if my memory serves me correct, but #90 also feels highly deserved given his previous hype, and his 2024 season which was basically the first to live up to that hype.

Of note, Seaver King does not feature. The other top 13 picks in the draft do. That’s kind of surprising. It’s not surprising that the top 9 that we talked about before the draft are ranked. But I am surprised that 7 others from outside the consensus top 9 were ranked and King was not, like Christian Moore, Braden Montgomery, James Tibbs, Cam Smith, Carson Benge, Trey Yesavage, Cam Caminiti. It’s Benge in particular that’s strange, because MLB had all of the other 15 ranked higher than King, but Benge was behind King in their pre-draft rankings. So I don’t know what they saw in very limited playing time after the draft that caused them to change their mind. King was pretty good in his short stint.. However, Benge was rated #99, so that means that King was almost certainly player #101 in their top 100.
