The Red Wings posted a picket fence in the late innings to rally from 4-2 down to take a 5-4 lead. The Indians tied it at 5-5 in the bottom of the 8th and forced extras. After trading zeroes in the 10th and 11th, Rochester drew four straight walks then capped off the Indianapolis meltdown with a Brady House RBI single. That made a winner out of Amos Willingham, who maneuvered through the 10th and 11th with three intentional walks without a score. Ty Tice let in the free runner while getting the last three outs to secure the 8-6 win that ended a six-game losing streak. House led the Red Wings offense with two singles and a double while Robert Hassell doubled twice and walked once.
Reading 4 Harrisburg 0
• Solesky (L, 2-5) 5IP, 5H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 5K
• Peterson 2IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 0K
• Wallace 1-3
• Wilson 1-3
A three-run 9th by Reading took away any woulda/coulda/shoulda as the Fightins shut out Harrisburg, 4-0 on three singles. Chase Solesky lost while turning in five innings of one-run all on five hits and a walk while striking out five. It was his fifth loss. Cayden Wallace, J.T. Arruda, and Cody Wilson each had single. None of them reached second base. Harrisburg’s hitters did not draw a walk and struck out seven times in the team’s 15th shutout of the season.
Lord had to get by with only his fastball(s) as he could not throw his breaking ball for a strike to keep the hitters off balance. not sure whether that’s due to his hand injury or the inactivity but nothing will take away from his successful year.
good to see Hassell have a good game, in addition to the above stats did his job in the seventh after Pinkney doubled to lead off the inning by advancing him with a productive ground out to 2nd.
Hassell 3 OF assist reminds me of how Larry Walker worked on his patented bare handed grab off brick wall @ old Bush Stadium in Indy as he worked through his slump with Leron Lee father of Derek . So maybe Hassell can take solice in knowing all AAA slumps end and careers soar higher .
Let’s see how JR fares in a good park for pitching .
I went to the Harrisburg game in the afternoon, then drove to Lancaster to see the Staten Island Ferry Hawks take on the Lancaster Stormers. Two games in two cities in one day, not something I’d ever done before. But I’d decided to treat myself to the all-you-can-eat BBQ ticket at Lancaster’s stadium, and then the Ferry Hawks announced that Pablo Sandoval (!) would be their starting pitcher for Saturday’s game. 5 1/3 innings, no runs allowed (a pop-out got him out of a bases loaded jam in, IIRC, the fourth), and 1 RBI at the plate.
As for the Harrisburg game, there’s little more to add. The announced attendance was over 3k, but it didn’t feel over 3k. It was a pleasant afternoon, game went really fast.
I lingered for a while after the game before going to Lancaster. I made a deposit on renewing my Sensylvania Club plan for next year, but you never know what will happen in life.
I’ve heard the Dodgers at Chavez ravine have gone away from their Farmer John’s Dodger digs to some cheap product
How was Lancaster BBQ ?
