Editor’s note: No probables were named in Sunday’s game notes. Last Wednesday’s starters are listed instead, which is what they will be if the rotation remains intact.

Rochester Red Wings, 22-17, 2nd Place I.L. East, 4½ GB – 60-52 Overall
The Red Wings split against the Bisons and fell another game back. Rochester returns home this week to host Syracuse for six with a matinee tomorrow.

Harrisburg Senators, 13-26, 6th place, 13GB, E.L. Southwest – 51-57 Overall
Harrisburg was walked off twice by Bowie on Saturday before the ‘pen was finally able to hold a lead on Sunday, preventing a six-game sweep. Richmond comes to town this week for six, including a Wet Nose Wednesday noon game. Trade pickup Cayden Wallace was moved from the 7-Day to the 60-Day I.L. in a move that was back-dated to August 7.

Wilmington Blue Rocks, 19-22, 5th Place, 3½ GB, Sally Lg. North – 48-53 Overall
The Blue Rocks dropped four of six to the BlueClaws and slipped into 5th place and another game back in the division. The Cyclones are back in town to play five night games and a Sunday day game. SSDL with OF Elijah Nunez, transferred to the 60-Day I.L. on August 4.

Fredericksburg Nationals, 26-16, 1st Place, 2GA, C.L. North – 58-44 Overall
Fredericksburg broke even against the Mudcats and will have one last opportunity to knock back the second-place team, which is now Salem. After that, it’s a two-week road trip against C.L. South teams before finishing game nos. 47-53 (give or take) against Lynchburg.

Meanhwhile, Travis Sykora was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for second straight week for his six perfect innings on Friday night. The FredNats have also announced that the top two 2024 Nats picks – SS Seaver King and Caleb Lomavita – will join the team this week. No word yet on who will be released or come down with Hellenic flu in a corresponding move.

DSL Angels 7 DSL Nationals 5
• De La Cruz 2⅓ IP, 5H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 3K, HBP, WP
• Familia (L, 4-2) 3⅔ IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 1K, 2-0 IR-S
• A. Feliz 3-5, 2R, 2B, SB
• Requena 2-3, 2BB, E
• Obispo 1-4, R, HR, 2RBI

The D-Nats tied the game at 4-4 with a four-run 4th but were only able to push across one more run. Hector Liriano’s two-out RBI double was the only hit in 14 RISP chances as the DSL Nationals left on 11 baserunners. Marlon De La Cruz made his tenth start but was knocked from the box with one out in the third with four runs let in on five hits and two walks. He struck out three. Jeffrey Familia stranded two while getting out of the third and allowed a run in the 5th, which was enough to take the loss. Angel Feliz led the D-Nats hit column with two singles and a double, followed by Angel Requena, who reached base four times on two singles and two walks.

Any buzz about Bazzell, Randal Diaz or Sam Petersen. They were all slot or above slot signings and pretty advanced college bats. Some people even rated Bazzell as more polished than Lomavita at catcher. I’d expect these guys to also see significant time in Fredericksburg, at a minimum, this season. And if Andrew Pinckney could reach Harrisburg by season’s end last season, I don’t see how these three (plus Lomavita and King) wouldn’t also see an aggressive promotion plan.

It’s the lesser/lower round guys like Jackson Ross or Teo Banks, who I’d hope we’ll still see make an appearance this season, but probably not get out of Fburg. I’d be amazed if Dickerson or Jones, our two HS picks, are seen until the FCL resumes next May.

Out of curiosity, I looked at Pinckney’s 2023 game log. He debuted for two FCL contests on 7/29, was in F’burg by 8/1, Wilmington on 8/22, and Harrisburg 9/12. He, Crews, and Morales all reached AA, but all started earlier than the 2024 picks will. Not sure what’s going on this year.

with less filler/organizational guys around this year in all likelihood it will move a little slower. still 60-80 ABs out there as well as 20-30 innings. less fun for us admittedly

True in general, but there is no one standing in the way of rapid advancement in the middle infield or at catcher. They drafted to fill positions of extreme need.

The Saenz short first IP vs Flying Squirrels makes us ponder what lefties are Grade A starters lower in chain : Clemmney , Bennett , Sullivan , Kent Bruni Bennett ??
Some of these guys may just ceiling out as loogies in the long haul but until then we shall see .
This farm will surely have a lot of pink slips passed out at seasons conclusion . Yea

Cayden Wallace suffered a right oblique strain in May. According to this info, recovery from a severe strain can take 3-4 months:

It seems that they’ve decided to just to shut him down for the season and get him completely recovered.

Acquiring Wallace and drafting the blue chippers round 1 I would peg as filling needs and insurance policies if the “ plan “ in next two years doesn’t pan out .
Saying nothing about Brady House in that remark .
    Or…. Am I ???
