Rochester 10 Buffalo 5 – GM. 1
• Rutledge 3IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 5BB, 3K, HR, HBP, 81-45 PIT-K
• Medina (W, 5-2) 1⅔ IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 3K

• Meneses 1-2, R, 2BB
A six-run 5th broke a 3-3 tie as Rochester doubled up Buffalo, 10-5 in the opener. Jackson Rutledge battled control problems, needing 81 pitches to get nine out as he let in three runs on six hits (one HR) and five walks, which tied his season high. He struck out three. Adonis Medina was the pitcher of record when the Red Wings went way ahead and recorded his fifth win. Newcomer Andrés Chaparro and rehabbing Joey Gallo both went deep while Dylan Crews was a homer shy of the cycle, including his tenth AAA double.
Buffalo 5 Rochester 3 – GM. 2
• Watkins (L, 7-5) 4IP, 5H, 3R, 3ER, 1BB, 4K, HR
• Cate 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Tena 2-3, R, BB, 2B, HR, RBI, E(19)
• Chaparro 1-3, R, HR, 2RBI
In the nightcap, the Bisons stampeded Rochester for three in the 4th to take a 3-1 lead, extended it to 5-1 with a two in the 6th, and held on for a 5-3 win to split the doubleheader. Starter Spenser Watkins gave up a three-run HR and five hits total over four innings, walking one, and striking out four. It was his fifth loss of ’24. Jose Tena and Andrés Chaparro both homered to account for all three Red Wings runs. Roster moves: RHP Spenser Watkins activated from the 7-Day I.L.
Bowie 7 Harrisburg 1
• Saenz (L, 0-1) 1⅓ IP, 8H, 7R, 7ER, 2BB, 1K, HR
• S. Reyes 1⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 2K
• Pinckney 2-4, R, 2-2B
• Harris 2-4, 2B, RBI
The rains didn’t come for Dustin Saenz who was hung out to dry for six runs in the 1st and one in the 7th before he was lifted in a 7-1 Senators loss to the BaySox. Led by Samuel Reyes, a sextet of Harrisburg relievers shut down Bowie the rest of the way. Unfortunately, Bowie’s pitchers were nearly their equal, nearly shutting out the Sens until Andrew Pinckney and Terone Harris hit back-to-back doubles in the 9th. That was the only hit in 10 RISP chances and the fourth and fifth hits total.
Jersey Shore 5 Wilmington 4
• Atencio (L, 2-9) 5IP, 7H, 5R, 4ER, 1BB, 3K, HBP
• Arias 2IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 3K
• McKenzie 3-5, 2R, RBI
• Hassell 1-3, R
Jersey took a 5-3 lead with a four-run 3rd to which Wilmington could onlty respond with a single run as they fell, 5-4. José Atencio lost for the ninth time with all five BlueClaws runs allowed on seven hits and a walk, with one Robles and three whiffs. Jared McKenzie singled three times, scored twice, and drove in one while Phillip Glasser, Robert Hassell, and Murphy Stehly each had one safety to round out the Blue Rocks’ six-hit barrage.

• B. Sanchez (BS, 2) 1IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 1K
• Vasquez (W, 6-1) 2IP, 0H, 0R, 3BB, 2K
• Peoples 2-3, 3R, 2B
• Rombach 2-4, R, BB, 2-2B, RBI, E
• Green 2-5, 2R, 2RBI, 2SB, 0K

The FredNats erased a 7-1 deficit with a seven-run 5th then snapped a 9-9 tie with a four-run 8th as they evened up the series with a 13-9 win. Brayan Romero gave up five runs on seven hits (one HR) and a walk over four innings. He struck out three. The win went to Samuel Vasquez, who tossed two scoreless in the 8th and 9th innings for his sixth win. The FredNats marched to a 12-hit parade with every batter reaching base and five notching multiple hits, led by Nate Rombach with two doubles.
Impressive day for our two new AAA bats.
Chaparro went 2 for 8 with 2 HR, 4 RBI and 1 BB
Tena went 5 for 8, 3 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI and 1 BB, playing both 2B and 3B
As much as I love Lipscomb, he’s not doing anything to justify a continued run out as the starting 3B. Tena has both a much better and longer minor league record, while being almost a whole year younger than Lipscomb. Tena is already on the 40 man roster, so I wonder how much longer we’ll see Tena in Rochester… there’s the added bonus that when Garcia sits against lefties, Tena can fill in at 2B. Despite Tena also being a lefty, he hasn’t shown platoon splits in his minor league career, and actually is sporting a lefty-favorable split this season.
Ole ex- po fans eye brows went up with the Chisox south side shuffle
Grady Sizemore and Doug Sisson .
Andrew Pinckney is quietly heating up. Over his past 8 games, he’s sporting a line of .379/.471/.724 with 8 of his 11 hits being for extra bases. He’s also been playing almost exclusively in CF.
Harrisburgers: how has Pinckney looked defensively in center? Above average? Poor? Un-noteworthy?
Un-noteworthy. Nothing really jumps into my head when considering your question. I don’t think he’s making alot of great plays, but he’s not a liability either.
Thanks! Seems about what was expected. Not a defensive whizz, but not exactly a liability either, but probably more likely a good corner OF than a CF.
This is the must see collection of young starters taking the bump for the affiliates tonight
Actually the additions of Tena and Ramirez 2 leads us to look at the slow
Maturity within some of the middle infielders in FCL and even within the DSL kids numbers .
Elijah Green 1st half/2nd half splits:
1st: 217 ABs 5 HRs .166 BA .264 OBP .267 SLG .531 OPS
2nd: 106 ABs 5 HRs .255 BA .352 OBP .462 SLG .814 OPS
For the all important stat:
1st: 114 K/236 PA 48% K rate
2nd: 47 K/115 PA 41% K rate
These are baby steps, and he has miles to go, but Green is slowly improving. That said, 41% K rate is still dreadful.
FWIW, the current level and current MLB Pipeline rank (of the MLB top 100 prospects) of the other 2022 MLB Draft HS position players (Green is not ranked):
Druw Jones (#77): A
Termarr Johnson (#74): A+
Jett Williams (#30): AA
Justin Crawford (#53): AA
Cole Young (#22): AA
Mikey Romero: A+
Xavier Isaac (#31): AA
Sal Stewart (#97): A+F
Should have made clear that the above list is the 2022 MLB draft 1st round of HS position players.
Don’t forget Jackson Holliday.
Hard to forget that Brooks Lee could be playing 3B for the Nats right now.
Rooting for Alvarez ( my mind wanders back to Tavo Alvarez in early 90s Expo chain ) to firmly plant his feet in AAA.
This has been says by many : the dSL young bats are developing
Added with the 24 draftees soon to start a few games at Fred
